This is deepest rabbit musical hole you can enter ! No one was or is as good as them. They were insanely versatile. They recorded this album between Sept 25th and Oct 3rd, 1968. It was released in Jan 1969. The drummer, John Bonham, and singer, Robert Plant, were only 20 yrs old on this album. Robert had only turned 20 five weeks prior to this recording. They were amazing ! Listen closely - there's a lot going on in their songs.

Jimmy Page put the band together and yes he was the lead guitarist John Bonham on drums Robert Plant lead vocals and John Paul Jones played bass and organ. But he could play anything and he would fill in where ever they needed him.

I first heard in 1971. I was 13 and have loved this band ever since. Last summer (2022) I met Robert Plant. I tried to be cool, but my inner 14 year-old-self was losing her ever-loving mind. STILL a rock star.

Young Robert Plant (1968-73) is virtually unmatched vocally from contemporaries. There were many great voices at the time (I see you met Janice on another reaction), and many great ones yet to come, but Robert really was something very special. The song is a reworked cover from a folk song written in 1959 and redone 3 other times before LZ reworked it. They got in some trouble for the way it was done, but if you listen to the other versions, it isn't even close. The song was originally telling a story about a young soldier going off to war, but most LZ guru's believe Robert was talking about leaving a woman he loved to go back out on tour.

Only an ignorant Fool would segregate music as 'White and Black Music'. American and British Music is HEAVILY INFLUENCED by the Great African American Artists i.e. Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Robert Johnson, Memphis Minnie just for starters. Led Zeppelin is HEAVY BLUES with the Electric Guitar sound of one of THE G.O.A.T.S. to ever pick a Guitar in Jimmy Page and the Heavy Hitting of one of the ALL TIME GREAT Drummers in the late GREAT John Bonham. I'm Hispanic and grew up listening to both Soul Funk genres and Rock n Roll. I listen to more Jazz now however I started listening to Jazz in the early 80's once I heard Caldera, Chick Corea, Al Di Meola, Pat Metheny just for starters. New Sub from the SF Bay Area. Peace and Blessings young man.
