At 49 I just bought my first used cruiser. A 2004 Kawasaki Vulcan 800 Classic. MY MSF class is in 2 weeks. I bought a helmet and the basic gear and have been practicing in my neighborhood, avoiding major roads and lights. Your vids have really helped me get acclimated. Appreciate it.

Congrats man! Just bought my first bike, 2019 Kawasaki Z650 (got a great deal). Rode around my cul de sac yesterday and finished day 1 of my MSF today. It’s a ton of fun, the MSF is all the fun and learning without the stress of dropping your own bike. Congrats again man, have fun with your MSF!

Went for my very first ride through town and in traffic on my 23 MT07 yesterday and it was incredible! Watching countless hours of your videos really paid off man, I had a massive dog with a cone around its neck run out into the road, unable to see me due to the cone and I was able to use a combination of emergency braking, counter steering/swerving to get out of danger and it absolutely worked! The best part was I didn't even really think about it, I just did it. Thanks for all your content!

This is great quality content. Lets get it out to more riders! Even though we have a fairly rigorous training, fully supervised by certified instructors, to complete over here in The Netherlands before we can get our license, we never learn about counter steering. So last week I decided to try this out for the first time on a stretch of road I know really well, it felt great. In total I rode for about 4 hours, constantly combining the things I had learned to get my license and counter steering, something I learned from this channel. Today I took another ride (3 hours) just practicing more counter steering and I have to say... I never wanna go back. Its simply amazing, so easy to execute and makes the ride even more enjoyable. Next time I have a couple of hours, I want to train (low speed) manouvres. I especially want to focus on the U-turn and an evasive manouvre. Both of these were part of the training to get the license, but now that I have my own bike and have only clocked around 1000 kilometers on it I dont want to get complacent thinking "I got this". I want to hone these skills
@mitchbonnikhorst77229 ай бұрын
@borderlands66069 ай бұрын
Passed my test years ago, and was never taught about counter-steering. Most light learner bikes can be steered with the hips, so the issue rarely arises.

One thing I've found that's helped me several times is practicing locking my rear brake and intentionally sliding. Once you get used to that feeling, and perfect how to recover, it can save your life in an emergency braking situation where you might otherwise highside or lowside.

I been ridin my own fer 45 years. I been watching and practicing your methods 1 year. Ive never been in more control and my confidence has gone through the roof. I just gotta get over the fear of my helmet. I often start getting the fear while wearing helmet at speed. Unless im in a halfhelmet or less. I do use full face for long trips though as i like facing the fear head on. Just have to stop when the fear effects the saftey of others. Its irrational but real. 150 no helmet perfectly calm but 60 with no wind and sometimes i freak out and have to stop. Other than that im vastly improved and have only even close to dropin bike is practicing.

Hey viewers, good stuff here, but consider ALWAYS putting your modular helmet down and in the locked position when in motion. If you had a low to no speed get off, the added leverage of the helmet being open and extended can add to your neck injuries because it has more weight to it.
@5thgearouttahere9 ай бұрын
It is not the weight - it is the fact you would have a huge lever hanging from the helmet reefing on your head. Even at the speed in this video it is begging for a neck injury. Not clever.

@@Angry-Lynx It is part of the first exam in Belgium and France, and if I'm not mistaken, Germany as well, there might be a few other countries too. But yes, nothing beats practice however it is extremely expensive here and we can't practice on our own before we get the first exam done with, unless we not only own a bike already and have a place to train on private grounds (many stores kick you out if you train without the temporary license unfortunately...) but the comment in german did give some good advice (using the throttle to give it more gas, taking advantage of the engine's inertia, using the nack break to stabilise and reduce the effect of clutch mismanagement. What I did not know until I switched motorcycling school was that adding a bit of throttle helped with reducing the risk of stalling quite a lot.

@stevemullens79378 ай бұрын
I used to be reasonably good and confident on a bike, then quit for about 20 years. Now, my biggest mental block to doing anything approaching what you demonstrate is cost. I have three bikes and have been riding again for nearly two years and nearly every time I ride, I do one U-turn just because and always to the left. Practicing to the point of fearing that I might drop the bike, is the problem. Dropping any of my bikes can get expensive real quick and one is older and much more difficult to find replacement parts in the right color! Injury isn't the fear, it's the repairs! I can do right turns fairly well in tight spaces, but "U-turns" are a different story. Any idea how to get past this?

I notice you keep your inside leg out of turns, whereas instructional books emphasise keeping feet on pegs at all times. Not sure which is correct. I'm fascinated by Japanese police display teams, who manage to turn 180 in the length of the bike after a straight line. Guessing it's a matter of speed combined with a commitment to push the bike over hard, plus experience of exactly where the breakaway point is - practiced 10,000 times.
