The pillar in the middle of the courtyard of the monastery has the story written in Tibetan which includes how many acres of land was donated by the king of Sikkim to His Holiness n also the names of the sponsors as well… The Golden stupa was built in the memory of His Holiness the 16th karmapa Rangjung Rigpe Dorje after the parinirvana of H.H in 1981 in which inside the stupa consist the Ashes or the remains n relics of His Holiness it’s called the Golden stupa cuz it’s gold n golden painted with many other authentic jewels n precious ornaments which was originally brought from Tibet during the invasion of china in Tibet n also some people at that time had also donated those jewels or their jewellery for the stupa as a tribute to H.H the Nalanda Institute behind the monastery was build by the 3rd Jamgon Rinpoche for higher Buddhist studies in Buddhist philosophy n literature n was inaugurated in the year 1985 if m not wrong… n yeah the Buddha image on the bone is said that while the cremation of His Holiness was being held a piece of bone burst out n fell on the lap of H.E Tai Situ Rinpoche n while giving a closer look it appeared that it has an image of Lord Buddha n it’s kept in a small stupa which is inside the upper floor of the monastery together with the black Crown of H.H which is guarded by the Indo Tibet border police I guess the lama was misinformed so he’s saying it’s brought back to Tibet which is in fact impossible but we never know any way m glad u visited Rumtek 😊👍🏻🙏🏻… hope u had a nice stay in Sikkim n do visit more in the future October n April is best to travel to north Sikkim cuz October is autumn n April is spring time which is actually the best time so good luck brother 👍🏻😊
