I played the game pretty casually in 2016 when this game dropped, quit and just got back into it this year. I joined in the fest for my first time and caught 5 shinys and 18 legendaries

Same here. I quit in 2017 because I was in a smaller town and they made it so hard to catch that you had to pay to play just to get pokeballs and catch common stuff. So I wrote a scathing review and signed off. It's MUCH better now and I'm definitely dumping $ into the game but now I feel it's fair to all town sizes and we don't have to. Lots of free options you just might have to be a bit more patient.

Though it would probably be a complex feature to add, I feel like a pretty cool thing to add for event days like GO Fest, Comm Days, Safari Zones, etc. would be a custom tracker with your friends in Pokemon GO, so it could track things like shinies, hundos, etc in game and show you a breakdown of everyone of your choosing from the event like the friends scoreboard at the top of your today tab.

Day 1 was the best it felt like the kanto tour all over again but with more different spawns it was my first go fest experience I must say definitely fun overall. day 2 was lack luster not really into raiding the spawns were crazy and the shiny rate was terrible which made sense, not many people around me play this game yeah so day 2 was not for me but hey so many new shines I did it got and had so much fun just being outside and catching them. can't wait for the ultra bouns events!

I did 4 million xp in 2 days 42 shinies 6 of them from the raids on day 2. It was a great time thus year! Last year I had a blast since it was my first time and had zero expectations.
