Used to split the bigger logs so they were smaller for the buzz saw. I suspected the chalk line was not going to be where the split went. The splint goes where it wants to. And white oak is surely stringy. Nice video.

Mike, yes the chalk line was a waste of time. I really liked this but I kinda cheated because the ironing board reached a third of the length.

Here in the suburbs of Levias Ky your wood wedge is called an bilivet. We make them out of dogwood. Increas in size from about 2 inches up to 6-8 inches. Start your split with a steel wedge in the small end. We split white oak for fence post 7-8 feet long.

Larry, I heard the dogwood was tuff, especially the root ball. Thanks for the insight! I will keep an eye out for a recently dead one.
