When my brother and I lived at home as an 18+ our cars and cells were still under my parent's name. So the bill would come, my mom would pay it to make sure it got in on time and we would just pay her back. I found out later she was saving that money so when we needed something like new tires or just anything bigger financially came up she would give us money from what we were giving her.

I know the Auschwitz questions were 100% in good faith, but I feel like it should be so obvious that Mike of course has no desire to go. You guys - as non-Jewish people, can tour the place, learn about it, and close the door behind you. However, for a Jewish person, I can imagine the lack of appeal regarding going to the literal place that is filled with such generational trauma for themselves, their parents, grandparents and so on. It’s a different ball game, and holds immeasurably different significance. Mike doesn’t need to get “in touch with history”, he is very much so in touch, because it IS his literal history. Just try to put yourself in his shoes, and asks yourselves if you’d like to literally pay money go tour the place generations of your people suffered, and learn about stuff you already very much know - probably more than the tour guides themselves. I love this podcast and all of you guys! But I just feel bad for Mike sometimes, like he’s made to always be the educator. Personally, I would find that exhausting. This is not to patronise, but y’all are in your 30s, I’d genuinely recommend picking up some literature, and truly decolonising your outlook. This is a prime example of how just having a few Jewish or minority friends is not enough, and being a true ally is using your own agency.

@@spamgarbage6999sorry did I miss the part where I said I know how every Jewish person feels? If you look closely, you’ll see I said ‘imagine’. And decolonize doesn’t always equate to these, specific people, being colonisers. It’s very obvious they are not. But by reading more literature, it helps people decolonise their outlook, by having a wider spectrum of authors and viewpoints, which in turn, would have possibly made it more understandable that Auschwitz isn’t somewhere Mike would want to go. And this ‘popular terminology’ is from my degree.

Even in my own experience as an African person it's always surprising when my close white friends don't take a minute to try to understand the outlook myself or people from my culture have towards certain atrocities/places and how its different from theirs. They're not bad intentioned, but yes its exhausting.

So i’ve been to Auschwitz and no there’s no screens. All the facts and photos are in glass on walls or standing type plaques. You go thru with a tour guide and they explain everything to you quietly over headset. Nothing has been changed and everyone is silent the whole time. It was a very hard and sad tour but I think people should go if given the chance.

I am 31 years old and when I was 15 I was made to get a job to help with rent and groceries also had to buy my own school stuff. A stay at home mother and an addict father. 1000% agree w Mike on plastic surgery!!! The problem is society but it's also ur brain for making you believe you need to get something fixed, so yes get your brain fixed (healed). Also the confidence that comes with getting things done is fake confidence too. Which most of the time means that if you would remove the surgery/procedures then there's a high chance of your confidence to get low and you'll need to learn how to love yourself without it which for some ppl take a long time or they want fast mental changes but dont want the process of it to be long so they go under the knife…
