Since posting this video, Chips unfortunately had to join Nilla and Timber. From our socials: This month has been really challenging for our animals, our staff, and our viewers. Today we had to say goodbye to Chips, our rat ambassador. Chips recently reached two years of age, an average lifespan for a domestic rat. She seemed to get old on us quickly and had been on medication for a lung infection for several weeks. Unfortunately, she was not responding well to antibiotic treatments and upon her recheck with the vet, they found aggressive cancer in her abdomen. The rats had two years full of life. As Chips now joins Nilla and Timber we will remember her for love for the feather basket, her incredible ability to drag tissue paper from the bottom of their enclosure to the top, and for all the little things that made her, her. We miss them and Alveus won't be the same without them.

My irl has been like that for the last three months. It’s tough working through all the emotions when things are good and bad at the same time.

To think that Timber got to live the end of his life in luxury instead of the inadequate care he was used to... what Alveus does is so incredibly meaningful. Not only do they make an entire world of difference to those individual animals but as a viewer I carry messages that the ambassadors have taught me throughout my daily life and the education from Alveus informs my life choices.

My first dog passed away exactly a year ago and I’m still mourning him like my actual child (to me he *was* , I will not have human children anyway) and so I can understand that you are going through hard times, considering how much love and care you obviously have for these wonderful animals. My heart truly goes out to you all 💔

They're looking into getting a new wolfdog companion for Awa since they're very social animals. Not sure if the same goes for Chips (rat).

rats are very social too. Not sure if they will get a companion, because rats are very defensive when it comes to their territory, and Chips is considered elderly too (about 2,5 y.o. if I’m not mistaken), and integrating a new rat takes time. And they most certainly would fight, which would be stressful for both Chips and a potential companion. So it seems there is no point in doing so :(

I think adding a small blurb underneath the animals on the memorial page going over their ages and what they passed from would prevent people drawing the wrong conclusions. It would be nice to see a small paragraph reminding people how the animal helped bring education to millions and that they passed from natural causes or something that was out of your control. I think it would show people how many animals came to Alveus and what their impact was by having a memorial page 🤍
