I have a rescued bunny that his whole fur matted to the skin and when i tried to get it done, it will start to scream and terrified. so i wait patiently until the fur grew, trim it one by one and a year later he's the most beautiful bunny i've ever had. even tho he loves to bite me as a hobby, i still love him.

AKELA means alone or single in hindi (Indian language), so the story of him actually being alone for 2 years made me really sad. Hope the best for him and the sanctuary!

It baffles my mind that people breed wolf dogs ON PURPOSE. I know people love wolves but you really don’t want (or need) the characteristics of a wolf in your house just because you like the ✨aesthetics✨. I’m a vet tech and have seen at least 3 wolf dogs in my career that were privately owned in PA Philly suburbs and every single one had zero training, 2/3 had a bite history and owners had zero control of them. (Granted I know it’s a vet setting vs home setting but still) I’m sure there are great owners that take the time to learn the “breed” and work with them closely but they really should only be in rescue or refuge etc. with professionals. Even if you do everything right they still deserve the correct environment. It’s unfair to them they just want to be in the wild 😩 ANYWAYS I’m so happy for you guys and your new addition!! Thank you and praise the entire Alveus sanctuary for everything y’all do!!! 💜💜

Yea, when Maya said just that network they were in contract with knew it 400, that overwhelmed me and I shed tears... I hate how we are as a society in the US, when it comes to animals. 😮💨 I grew up in MN and we moved to TN in 09 (in my mid 20s). Just over a month after we got here, a few month old Husky wandered in from the woods to our property where we were camping and building or house. We tried to find her family and had a flyer at the local very, but came up short, so it became obvious she was abandoned. As such, we kept her. I have no idea why she would've been abandoned, either, because over the next nearly 16 years she was nothing but the absolute best dog! I hate that folks down here - but also all over, I just never experienced it in MN - are so willing to discard animals. We had a lab, and despite some early defensive actions initially when he would go near her food, she integrated perfectly with him. She was house trained... So yea 🤷♂️ She was nothing but a lover and it went both ways. Had to say goodbye to her just shortly after Timber's departure, but those were the best 15-3/4 years. But yea, a year after another dog wandered in, Sam, and we still have him. We've seen numerous cats come through as well. We're in a semi-rural area, so it's not like a neighborhood where animals roam around, and there's coyotes all over.... They're all clearly abandoned, and it's sickening 😢_(except Sam, his owner lives near but their other dogs would ditch him over here, and we said it's better to just live with us)_ [/somber ramble]

This was such a soothing video to watch. Having Akela just behave and Maya talk in between really calmed me down. Also, does anyone know if they considered a full non-releasable wolf as a companion? Maybe they didn't need to because there is such a big need for wolf dogs (400 a year needing rescue is such a big number, and that's just one organisation!) or maybe it's just about compatibility with Awa? I'd imagine there's some difference in behaviour, but I also think I might remember that the enclosure was built also with full wolves in mind.

I can't even fathom where one would begin to plan transporting an animal that cannot be handled directly and that you aren't familiar with for over ten hours through multiple states, including storing, sedating, feeding and watering them, even after finding them, which I also wouldn't know how to start.

I don't know if anyone will see this, but I found out you can get a large dog that is at risk of bloat a minor invasive gastropexy during a spay/neuter. Is that why you all are waiting for him to put on weight? I wasn't sure if most people were aware of this too so I had to mention it but I know yall have Connor lol!
