Great video! These are questions I've been asked so many times. I have always told people that each maker has their own journey. The one thing I push with every maker who asks me is, make the absolute best knife you are capable of making. It doesn't need to be the most elaborate but, it should be your best possible work. That will carry you a long way in knifemaking.

Great video thanks for keeping it real and I totally understand when you said you don’t like selling Knives I probably made over 500 knives and sold maybe three I just hate asking for money for them. Appreciate the video you’re the best. Keep it up love watching it.

Thank you so much for sharing and the way you deal with it. I found it awesome to hear somone saying something like that about selling things and money. It's absolutely the same here. Even if I'm just a hobbyist. I'm not here constantly but when I can make it. I'm allways happy I made a visit here again.

I currently work 2 jobs, one of them is already kind of a passion job that is seasonal. If I ever start making knives professionally it will pretty much exclusively be what I do in the off season to replace the hours of my seasonal job (my seasonal job uses coal during the summer which is easier on my body than the gas forge I use as a hobbyist).

Thank you man! Since going full time, learning all the business end stuff has taught me..... you have to love learning how to grow your business, just as much as the profession your business is in.

I about had a panic attack when I opened this video I thought you had on an Alabama tee shirt LOL. I'm a hobbyist and never wanted to make a single knife to sell. I made me and 2 of my friends hunting knives for a hunting trip and someone tried to buy mine but I didn't want to sell it. It was by far the nicest knife I ever made but I let it go for $300. I wish I didn't sell it but I needed some wood. I have other people wanting some just from that one sell. If you put pride in your work and sell at a reasonable price you should be on your way. Great video 👍

When ppl ask about what price one should sell a knife for, I believe you should always get as much as you can. The market will all go to the Chinese if we undersell everything.

I like this video. My story isn't the same as I'm not even making full time due to some health issues. Though someday I do hope to be full time, both artisan blacksmith & Bladesmith.

Hmmmm. Your right shoulder is quite a bit lower than your left. Is that from overloading and stresses due to hammer banging?

Having a means of maintaining health insurance becomes a significant factor once one has others to care for. Family comes first, the rest will follow if you play the cards right.

If you're gonna go pro and think you want to do the gun show/knife show circuit come up with a good answer for "why should I pay THAT much for a knife when I could do it myself for cheaper?!" or "pfft, I can get the same thing at Walmart". You're gonna hear one of those at least once an hour.

Doesn't matter what the financial situation is, a guy has to take at least 1 day off each week. Body has to rest, and have its sabbath, just like farmland, gotta let the land rest every 7th year. When ya get into not taking a day off, ya end up getting trapped into never taking a day off. It's a never-ending curse. Take the time to be with your God, Family and friends. Life's to short to spend it all chasing that dollar.
