We got the privilege of attending a Romanian wedding! It was so much fun and definitely different than an American wedding. Milla turned into a dancing queen and literally danced the night away!
We also share a little from our Valentine's Day. We hope you enjoy!

Italian-American weddings go until midnight or later for the reception, and often times an after party!

@@THECALDERONFAMit's true... in some regions they even last for a whole week... also seems that certain Serbians have similar customs, my nana told me about it after she participated at one of their weddings.

Haha, it looks like you guys had a blast! It's a good thing this one looked like a softer version, a couple more like this and you'll be ready to power through one that ends at 5-6 in the morning 😆 I've never seen the girls so energetic, they really owned that dance floor! 🤩Personally, I find the Romanian weddings way too long for my liking (even though I was born and raised here), it's like going to the gym (or Zumba class) and an all-you-can-eat buffet all at once 😅, but it's nice that you were together with friends, and everyone seemed to be enjoying it and in their element :)

they only feel long if you don't have fun, or have a change of clothes/shoes at about 2AM LOL. I once went to a christening and at the party everybody made their entrance in their elegant clothes, but after midnight ,we all changed into sneakers, jeans, some were wearing crocs and flip-flops, some were barefoot but we needed to still dance, so nobody cared 🤣 We left that party at 4AM and got home at about 6, cause it was held in the mountains.

First of, Casa de Piatra to the newlyweds! Second, did you guys also celebrate Dragobete on the 24th? Also, if a wedding is really good, you spend 24h awake and don't even feel it. It's a whole day event and you don't leave the party before midnight unless it sucks. When I was 5, at my uncle's wedding, I danced my tush off too, and at the other weddings, I only went home in the morning the next day LOL. Oh, what confession/faith are the happy couple? It's relevant because the religious ceremony is different, and so are a few of the "before" customs, and I was wondering if you actually went through all the motions of going to collect the groom from his parents, then the godparents of the couple (kinda like witnesses but more life long commitment, as they become your family from that day on), then the bride from her parents' house, and the go to the city hall for the civil ceremony, and just after that, to the church for the religious one. And theeen, it's party until morning. Also, I don't know if you noticed, but here we don't do the thing where the bride is not supposed to see the groom before church, and she's not "given away" by her dad at the altar ( well, it might happen in some Catholic weddings); the happy couple go through all the steps together. Oh and leaving before midnight, might make one miss out on a few fun traditions too, cause they steal the bride's shoe, they steal the bride, the groom and the godfather have to get "punishments" that are more like silly dares, then they recover the bride, cut the cake, sometimes steal the groom too LOL, and then we get the garter and the bouquet thrown, then, the lady who catches the bouquet, gets the veil of the bride too. Oh and Pablo, I sure hope you played some "populara" too, cause that's the only way to make room to eat all the food and keep room for dessert too.

We didn’t do all of those traditions as it was a Christian wedding, but those sound fun! Lots of populara was played!

@@THECALDERONFAMI had to edit the comment, cause I wrote Pedro instead of Pablo... the coffee hadn't hit yet, when I wrote the "novel" 😅😆 P.s. the (before and during the wedding) traditions are Christian, but they're more common amongst the Orthodox crowd, since it's kinda the main faith of the people in the country and they're mixted with regional cultural stuff.The rest are just party customs, people have kept and/or "developed" or embellished over the years, and they sorta turned into traditions. Heck, it's almost a rule to play Meneaito, Cotton Eye Joe, and that 30 minute long Sarba medley, and nowhere does it say that you HAVE to, but it's done and it's fun anyways.

I'm not sure how it works in Romania but American weddings aren't as long probably because the longer you have it the more it will cost you. I'm not sure if they were super expensive over there like they are here

Weddings here in Romania are actually a LOT more expensive for guests than in the states.
@lauram4168

you pay for the venue, but all the guests instead of offering a gift ,they give envelopes with money, so the couple will have the costs covered and they still have money left from the wedding

Normal Romanian weddings are more like to help the newly wed have a start in life, if they are not fully settled already. And those who accept to participate come with a few hundred bucks or more, in an envelope. Never empty handed.

I don't like weddings, they are boring and cringe imho :)) not to mention a total rip-off and a pyramid scheme (I go to your weeding because you came to mine, the so called obligation weddings). Of course these don't usually apply to Christian weddings. Or perhaps I am just a weeding Grinch I dunno, maybe because I'm introvert by nature and don't like gatherings of any types :))

It makes sense to help the newlyweds kickstart their life together. Historically, the whole village would contribute to the wedding and have a celebratory sending off. You can look at it as a pyramid scheme, or just being polite and helpful
@manu144x

it's not a pyramid scheme. It's a 0 sum game which is pretty fair. Yes you pay a lot of the money you receive back at some point but you don't do it all at once. It's not free money but at least it's interest free money.
