Josh. When the truck is in your shop out of the weather. You can clean the pins and grease them with dry-lube. This helps a lot because the dried-lube does not catch so much dirt from the roads.

Can't wait to see your truck all detailed. Palm trees have that affect on me too. Hope you get to see your palm trees. Sorry for Brit to be left in the snow, but glad for you to be out of the snow. The closeness of the trailer looked fine to me, until, you explained what can happen if the trailer is too close to your headache rack. Maybe the reason the back of your truck is called a headache rack, for just the reason you explained why you don't want the trailer too close. And a very good way to look at all the work that goes into making things right the first time. Less headache in the end. I can't believe how much truck drivers go through to get a job done. You really do need a lot of patients and perseverence. Thank you for sharing! Hope you're trip is or has been a good and safe one!

What stood out to me driving Texas interstates was how international the truck traffic was. Over the summer on Interstate 30 between Dallas and Little Rock, it was like "American, Mexican, Mexican, Canadian, Canadian, Canadian, American" as I was passing trucks. And I write this being used to sharing my local interstates with Canadian truckers. Safe travels down to the border and back!

Oh one more thing, Texas weather is very different including winters compared to other states. It was up to 71 degrees today, but in December it got down to 12 degree's for a week. During the day temperature goes up & sunny. South Texas is warmer compare to rest of Texas. The Texas Gulf Coast is great & yes a ton of Palm trees there. LOL!😄 Good luck & stay safe Truckers. Again THANKS for coming to our state.👍🇺🇲💯🤗

Tip from an old driver. Carry Dawn dish detergent with you. Put a lot on and around the pins. It’s a great lubricant and will wash away in the rain. Grease accumulates dirt and grime, Dawn washes it away. I even use it to slide the tandems on the trailer. Be careful out there. That’s an order, not a request.

Hello Josh - glad you are coming to our state of Texas........"Welcome"! If u like BBQ, some of the best is in Central Texas where I'm from. Also hope u like meat. But we do have tons of diversity when it comes to food. Also we have great MUSIC 🎶, not just country-western but also Southern Blue's 🎶But please be careful at the border. Not always safe down there at the border areas. Some "shady people". Our Texas Gulf Coast is great too. We native Texans are "friendly people" but can't speak for all the transplants living here from "everywhere", yea even from New York. LOL 😂 praying for all Truckers, stay safe.🙏🇺🇲🇺🇲💯🤗🎶

the term fith-wheell comes from the horse and cart days. the cart would have 4 wheels and, originally, a fixed front axle which made turning difficult. to alleviate this, a "wheel" was fixed to the underside of the cart which allowed the fron axel to articulate / turn. it was thus named the 5th wheel :)

heres why its called the 5th wheel Josh " The name actually comes from the company that first utilized the hitch in the early 1900s. The Martin's Fifth Wheel Company named their device after the round shape of the hitch. Hence, the hitch itself is the “fifth wheel.” Before the introduction of the new kingpin, the device itself was in the shape of a wheel.

Hey TJV, it's called a 5th wheel as back in the day trucks only had 2 axles 4 wheels plus the turntable + 5 wheels... As for the 5th wheel hydraulic pins, EU/UK/AUST trucks have the same locking mechanism as you have when pulling the kin pin.. A much easier and simple process.
