Raphael, don't be afraid of the long list of ingredients.....the USDA makes by law every company to list any and or all ingredients that the product contains and or could "possibly contain" (like cross over peanut/nut that could be processed in the same plant) to make sure consumers know everything that could be in it. We also list things individually that other countries could list together. Yes they are scary to look at, but if you take a moment to deep dive into each ingredient, they are basic and ok to eat.
@Alizzzzzzzzzzzz3 ай бұрын
the stuff that could be in it is also on our labels plus what the ingredient is made of if its not simply water. The ingredient lists in the US are just very long since often stuff gets added to make it either longer shelf stable or "better tasting" or both

I'm going to disagree most countries don't allow the crap the USA does. They are literally banned ingredients we have here.

About the number of items in the ingredient list, the US requires every item listed, so for example if they use vanilla extract - every ingredient in the extract must be listed, same with spice blends. I worked in an ice cream plant and we had to list alcohol in the vanilla ice cream because of the vanilla extract.

I just came across your channel and I am so glad I did. Your reaction and commentary is so funny, and your editing is well done. I am so disappointed that I didn’t learn about the Trader Joes’s sooner, especially here in L.A. The value is unmatched! Some of my favorite things there include the fresh ravioli. There are several seasonal specialties to choose from and some are there year round, like the delicious cacio e pepe. Their salad kits are also very delicious. The BBQ and Black Pepper Toscano is my favorite so far. I also like some of their burritos. They have all kinds, including a Thanksgiving one. I love to get their frozen mango chunks for my smoothies. I was paying $8 at Ralph’s for a similar sized bag at Trader’s Joes for $2.99. I could go on and on because there are too many delicious things to name. You should pick up their Fearless Flier newspapers; it gives lots of suggestions of items to try. 💖

Rule of thumb...if it says to put it in the oven...use an air fryer, the constant air circulation in the air fryer will make it crispy by evaperating any water/ice from a frozen item. putting a frozen item in the oven, the ice crystals will melt before the oven gets hot enough to cook, letting the food item sit in water & get soggy as sometimes the batter or crust will start to absorbe the moisture.

I also dig their frozen Indian food, especially the Korma Fish (believe it or not... I know fish sounds odd for a frozen Indian dish that is prepared in the microwave, but it's surprisingly good!). Even better than the fish korma, however, is their plain frozen naan bread. (Plain! Not the garlic variety.) I will say Trader Joe’s has great prices! We recently had a roommate move in and I went shopping with our combined lists and was surprised to find that I got our normal fruits/veggies/bulk items and meats and maybe 5-6 processed items that they asked for brought the bill up an additional $100. Usually the two of us spend about $250 a month, so I was amazed almost half of that was spent on just some quick to disappear packaged items. I think it depends on what region of the US you’re in too though!

I think that overall, the food under our European rock is more healthy. American processed foods, especially the sweets contain way too much sugar, Raphael wasn’t joking when he said “four times the amount of sugar”. If you buy literally the same brand of the same item in America and Europe you’ll understand what I mean. The food regulations are different, we don’t really have that much corn syrup and palm sugar sweets (if at all).
@raphaelgomes10 ай бұрын
yeah it's true! but i have also noticed that a lot of european foods these days start to have weird ingredients like those syrups too! and there are a lot of amazing brands that make good quality food in america too. both can be true! i need to do a full series on this cause it's so interesting 🤔
@owlpayson784110 ай бұрын
Yeah. A lot of american food has additives like extra corn and sugar to cut costs. Food and income have a weird relationship in the us. If you're getting food in american keep an eye on sugar/sodium
@minime737510 ай бұрын
@@raphaelgomes For sure it would be interesting to try comparing even some basic items like ketchup. If you do it though you’d have to avoid using UK products as term of comparison (since it’s not subject to EU regulations anymore), imo Portugal would be a better point of reference. It’s true that we’re starting to see odd ingredients approved for consumption (like proteic flour made of crickets) but in general terms I still think the food in Europe is healthier.Maybe it’s not just in the ingredients, there are other factors, like fast food, convenience food in America and cooking at home from scratch in Europe, general cultural differences when it comes to food.

Trader Joe's is the best! You can really find some gems in there! That's 1 store that I don't mind taking my time in, walking around, really paying attention to what they have.

Rafa you should try toasting your bagel and seeing if you like it better that way. Not too long, just long enough for a crisp on the outside while it’s still chewy inside. 😋

I haven’t seen Cornetto’s in the US; but pretty sure Magnum Bars are there! You can get them in Canada, at least (Calippo bars too). They’re sold under Unilever here.

Their fruits and veggies are extremely good priced too, and i haven't been there in a while, but they also have a great salad/sandwich section! And the coffee ☕ And im not sure if its still there, but they have nacho chips that are comparable to Doritos Ive been going to Trader Joe's since i was a kid living in the bay area, we finally got one in my now city a few years ago Oh put the chicken things under broil setting in the oven for a minute or two after the full cooking instructions and they will crisp up 😊
