I have Pompholyx (also known as dyshidrotic eczema). In my case, it got so bad I couldn't even walk on carpet without thick fuzzy socks because every surface I stepped on hurt my feet. I had large patches of blistering skin that cracked and bled. One of the first suspects looked at was a nickel allergy. And one of the first results in google for this condition says it's caused by, "a reaction to something that has touched your skin - such as certain metals (particularly nickel)" I went to several very expensive dermatologists, avoided nickel in every possible way (including not wearing jeans that might have nickel snaps), and the amount of Rx creams I used was crazy. Every doctor seemed to think that it was either poor hygiene (a fungus or something) or an allergy- and I was frequently shamed by nurses and practitioners for the state of my feet (though my hands were also affected- just not as bad). Then I got a job working outside for 8+ hrs a day and suddenly my feet started getting better. The difference was remarkable. I started doing some research and Vitamin D is actually an essential vitamin when it comes to epithelial cells adhering to each other. The increase in vitamin D by being outside basically allowed my skin to keep itself together. It turns out that my mother and several cousins with similar or the same problems also test low for Vit d. in their blood work. That whole time I was just lacking a key component to helping my skin maintain it's cohesion. These days I still get occasional blisters (don't work outside anymore), but I take a D3 supplement and I can touch or wear as much nickel as the next guy without it causing a problem. I lived with this debilitating issue for almost 4 years before stumbling onto an answer. I'm not saying this person doesn't have a legitimate allergy... but my experience is that doctors aren't all-knowing wizards, and anyone who recommends that someone with a nickel allergy eat fish doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about.

@zakosist4 жыл бұрын
In that case I might acutally agree with you. Bulimia is more of a mental disorder than a physical one. Well unless there was something purely physical that started it in this case... Like the food failing to satisfy you, which of course lead to overeating. Or if the digestion doesnt work properly (which is almost garanteed related to the food in some way) so you physically feel the urge to throw up, or you want to relieve the actual pain it causes. Im actually a bit in doubt because there could potentially be something physical that started it (also a chance it was not). Ive tried a vegan diet myself before, and one of the main problems was constantly getting hungry despite eating a lot. I dont have that problem when eating meat. But vegan foods, even that roghly match the calorie content of meat arent even half as satisfying

Hello Mic the Vegan. I am a vegan and I have a nickel allergy. It is very much REAL. I can't eat beans or leafy greens or soy or any whole grains, only white wheat and rice. It is very restrictive, but I am still vegan and always will be. It does not impair a person's ability to be vegan, but it does make it harder. Symptoms are itching, gastrointestinal symptoms, dizziness, muscle and joint pain, and flu-like symptoms.

Dear fellows, it all about the gut flora and how you digest your food and what you absorb from it. We all have different gut flora. So we all absorb food differently and have different food intolerances. That’s why some people feel great on the vegan diet while some get sick all the time. The same is for carnivore diet. The same is for keto diet. Believe me. I am immunologist. Just stay away from the processed food and try to do combination diet and you’re gonna be fine. And of course - the more plant based you are, the better. Enjoy

My only option was to continue with my plant based diet and avoiding those kinds of food and supplement with vitamins (Why??) or re-introduce fish and eggs. My gut improved immediately and the allergies cleared. I still don’t eat meat products, milk cheese etc, but I eat fish and occasional eggs. Everyone knows their own body, don’t make those that follow a lifestyle that works for them health wise feel bad about it, let’s respect our personal choices. Peace.

Most vegans leave cult sooner or later.
@karlwheatley12443 жыл бұрын
Actually, at the present time, despite decades of propaganda telling them they must eat meat and dairy daily, the trend in places like America is more low-meat diets, more vegetarians, and more vegans. As people get smarter about a balanced vegan diet and there's more social support for it, it will get easier and easier. And we really have to slash consumption of beef, mutton, and goat meat in order to save Earth's ecosystems, so that's another upside of this shift.

There is nickel free stainless steel cookware that will also lower nickel intake. It has to be 18/0 or 21/0 as the second number is the nickel content. The company making it is homichef. Also there are nickel free silverware options as well. Cooking acidic food in regular stainless steel can significantly up your nickel intake.

Usually in the UK you see a general practitioner who is like your family doctor and if there is enough of an issue then you get sent to a big hospital to see the consultant who specialises in a certain area. I've only seen a neurology consultant and he was older for sure. I think they've done something like 11-13 years of study just to qualify as a consultant.
