A movie! Keep us posted on the release. I look forward to it after reading the surprisingly good Cho Hun-Hyeon book Go With the Flow.

Great analysis, and story: thank you! There is some sadness in it, the inevitability of life: however good you are at young age, at some moment a younger one will beat you.

In the West there's a saying that: "No matter how good you are at something, somewhere there's an Asian kid better than you." In Cho's case, that somewhere was in his own house.

Thanks for the commentary. Cho-Hunhyun visited the UK many years ago, I was lucky enough to attend an interview with him.

Perhaps that was at the same event Matthew Macfadyen 6d told me a story about. He was taking maybe 3 stones in a simul against Cho, and as is Matthew's wont he was trying to kill a group. After much hard work he was feeling rather pleased to have succeeded, but only too late did he realise that in the process Cho had set up a magnificent squeeze all around the semeai and converted much of the rest of the board into a formidable territory.

Great guidance through a very complex game, very interesting to learn that there will be a movie about the master-student relationship between Cho-Hunhyun and Lee-Changho and hopefully that will be made available to an international audience. Netflix is actually streaming the K-Drama "Misaeng", meaning incomplete life, a term sometimes used in Baduk. The main character is a former Yen Gu Saeng/Insei who tragically failed the exam and has to start a new life as a white collar worker in a big company, he is absolutely not prepared to this and heavily mobbed but the Baduk principles he learned helped him to prevail. In the 3. episode around 24 min. there is a short guest appearance of.... Cho Hunhyun.

i enjoy these kind of videos the most. where i learn a lot of background stuff. i had no idea, that leechangho struggled for 5 years as a professional against his teacher. it shows that he had to earn his dominance. crazy how strong cho hun hyun was, his nickname was speedy bird. he left many unfinished positions behind and asked his opponent, punish me if you can. honestly, that style of play is popular since AI. professionals nowadays ask often punish me if you can, tenuki often and leaving positions behind.
@RayVitoles Жыл бұрын
Its not really " punish me if you can".I think AI understands what we humans knew all along,just better.Efficiency.If the AI has to prevent a shape from being ruined and inneficient it will defend the shape.But if a group however weak has good shape,it might tenuki if there are Aji that it can take advantage later,and its usually because of the opponents bad shape..The AI might get killed in some place,but it will punish you so hard for killing it,that you wished you didnt.This style of play is very efficient and very difficult to counter..I think AI style is similar to Go Seigen,another player who would punish you hard for killing his stones,and out of all pro players,I think he and Shin Jinseo have the best intuition in Go

It can be difficult when pride meets pride. in any case, he is proud of his student or his work. And last but not least, his wife's cooking.

It might be kinda "racist" but we mean it affectionately and as a respectful and awe-filled nod to the intensity that Asian culture will take things sometimes, like living with your Go teacher for 6yrs. The saying captures a humble levity with life, too, and as a kind of backhanded compliment to Asian culture for being willing to sacrifice life balance in pursuit of excellence in a single domain.

Verry interesting story. I think Lee-Changho should say "thank you" instead of "sorry". The duty of a teacher is to make his students better then him. Cho-Hunhyun did this, so it is a great teacher! So he deserve a grate “Thank You Teacher”!

I can’t not say it. Yeonwoo, just because someone is chubby doesn’t mean they aren’t a genius, or that they don’t look like one. You can be chubby and a genius. The way you look doesn’t indicate how smart you are, or how good at go you’ll be. I love you to death, but here in the states that’s called discrimination. It’s also called discrimination anywhere, even in Korea. Trust me. I’m American. We know a thing or two about discrimination.

I feel like you're suggesting that SHE said that, when clearly she was presenting the opinion of the people around him. I highly doubt Yeonwoo has any personal feelings about whether someone's IQ can be measured by their weight. 🙄. Unless you're doubting that people judge others based on their appearance, which of course we all know they do. Again, she's just presenting facts, not judgements.

Great video!! As a filmmaker, your lighting irks me, so I need to say something. You need some more light on your face, and the light in the background needs to be less bright. This will balance your image much better from an exposure angle. Thank you for great stories!!! You bring excitement to go history, and make it relatable!
@goproyeonwoo4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for advice it is always hard to adjust light for me!
@HunterThinker4 жыл бұрын
@@goproyeonwoo Depends on camera you use. The theory is very simple, but your camera must be controllable. If camera is automatic then more difficult to control. If camera is manual, then you have have a known exposure and you build your lighting one light at a time. My suggestion still: more light on face angle from above, less light on background.
