Mike, I think you can add to your list of reasons to use a Tokyo Rig. I use two smaller weights, versus one, it adds to the sound/vibration the bait generates bouncing off the bottom.

Been messing with these for about a year. The different presentation and free flowing look does well, especially in pressured spots, which is all we have round here. Always quality vids Mike.

Just picked up some vmc Tokyo rigs yesterday excited to try them on the small mouth in my lake. I've got some tubes I'm gonna try to fit on there and get beside these big lay downs. Thanks Mike!

You're great and you may have THE BEST channel. I use and love the Tokyo Rig but with all the metal and weights hanging off of it sure makes you wonder why we've all been so concerned for years about fish seeing our line???

Mike here is west virginia we have a lot of deep what i call bugger than average rock banks .. I have taken a Tokyo rig made me a loop at bottom of where sinker goes and added a o-ring with a wire and make the sinker part about 6 to 8 inchs long to keep my bait up out of rocks and have had great success doing that .. Any way vmc can make us one with a longer sinker attainment to keep bait higher off the bottom .. Awesome bait awesome video thanks pal

Awesome video and awesome rig!! Tested it out yesterday and had good results. My favorite pro to this from a basic Texas rig is you can feel the bottom a lot more. Only thing I didn’t like is that the VMC hook tip is too short and made it easier for fish to shake off

What would happen if you added a 6” wire to raise the bait up just a bit more? We have lakes with a lot of slim here. So if I could raise the bait just a bit more.

Excellent series opener. I have several rigs ready to fish. I don’t remember to tie them on. How long do you recommend the weight stem to be? Mine are about 5”. I’m looking forward to the entire series. Thank you.

great topic like the idea of 4 part series been trying Tokyo lately in milfoil patches clear water with grassy (hydrilla i think?) bottom. couple of catches. bait is going into grassy bottom think bite are coming when bait emerges from grassy bottom. any thoughts on longer weight wires or should I lighten up presentation so bait doesn't go in so deep into cover? or should i leave in cover and work bait in there I don't need to see it the fish do?

With that wire on there what's the point in using a leader? It doesn't look natural as it is while it's falling. Might as well go straight braid if you're punching heavy cover. It'll be very low light under that cover anyways.

I've had issues having my baits stand up in the water. I've thrown a chigger craw on a 3/8oz, 1/2oz, and even 5/8oz. The bait just falls down, I did not try a different bait I just put them away thinking I was doing it wrong.
@ianfung503

The wire is stiffer than line but I can’t see how the rig+bait doesn’t just fall down if the line is slack. I imagine there needs to be some tension on the line to keep the bait off the bottom.

Mike I loved the toyko rig sense I seen it 3 or 4 years ago. But I've always been leary of the sinker sitting and sliding right next to the bait. What do you think? And how long do you think the wire with sinker on it should be. I like longer ones, but that puts your bait further off the bottom. Your thoughts sir.

I had the same thoughts and questions. Thought about pegging. Also thought about using a longer wire that allows room for a simple Carolina rig if you’re hopping it or transitioning from muck/silt to a harder bottom. Which brings the question of length; I’ve made a bunch, from 3” to 8”. Water depth and clarity, vegetation depth, muck and silt, and anything else that makes me think about changing lengths. Hell, mess around with stuff. I’ve had pretty nice fish and plenty of bites with the right setup. Just wish I could try at more lakes.

Wrong Mike, everyone has caught more fish on a texas rig than they have lost. The weight opening the fishes mouth.. not enough to make someone lose almost every fish. Also, add a second bullet weight pointed upward with a glass bead between the 2 weights...sound attractor. Add one or 2 silicone bobber stops ahead os the upper weight to stop excessive weight movement. Only leave enough space for the weights to click against the glass bead.

Great subject matter but this video could have been better. The blurring and panning off you could have been edited or re-shot. Underwater images would have been stellar.
