If I was a professional fishing for big bucks I would hook up the Wacky rig just as Tyler said. As a long time amateur I do it a little different to save money and at the same time be just as effective. I use the same size and type hook that Tyler uses but then do as follows. I put on the rubber o ring halfway up the worm. I then put the hook on perpendicular to the worm by starting right next to the o ring. I barely skin hook the worm, go under the O ring and finish by coming up through the slightly hooked worm. This way it does not affect the fall of the worm and your hook is basically perpendicular for hook sets. After I have caught a few fish the worm will tear a little bit and all I have to do is take the hook out, turn the worm to a fresh side and reinsert the hook as before. depending upon the size of worm you can do this 2 or 3 times. As a further tip, should I catch the worm before it is completely torn in half I will take the worm off and save the halves in the bag with the other worms. If the water I am on is conducive to it , I can later take those halves and trim them down to fit on a light Ned rigg. This way the bait will have a slow fall and will be of the color the fish seem to like. I have just killed 2 birds with one stone, saved some money, and I'm catching more fish per worm. When I 1st did this it was the start of me learning how to ned rigg as well.

@@MrCobb-rq8iv yeah, that is the way i have heard to do it. The o rings are dirt cheap, the senkos are not lol, just put two on, cross them over each other, and then put the hook under both of them. Then the hook is positioned properly and the worm will last for much longer

You can get a nail weight in the middle of a stickbait for a wacky rig. Just fold the worm over but not evenly. Go 2/3 to 1/3, where the longer side has the egg sack. Insert that nail weight up the longer side, which is the side you'll put the hook through. Try to stay as centered as you can. I generally like to have the tip of my weight about halfway into the egg sack. Hook as you normally do. The nail weight also protects that worm from the hook and it'll last longer.

New to me is the BFS low profile reels. I have two of the Doviello and two of the KastKing. With 3-4 LB braid and a lure on the heavy side of the rod these cast twice as far as my average 40 yard cast. My first yard cast in the yard went past the tree and over two power-lines. After I got it back to the road where I could see it I unsnapped the lure and slowly got the line back over power lines. So, IMO I think the new BFS coupled with the right rod and line will give good skipping competition to the old open face spin cast system. The spools on these are very very shallow so low inertia and no backlash. With 6 LB and down you can still get 327 yards on. YMMV.

you asked who's recommendation you like the best and I like Randy's the most. I live in Dallas so Texas rigging a senko weightless is the deal. wacky rig has a place but if you want to fish a senko anywhere and everywhere you want to. That's the way to go.It is by far the most solid soft plastic on the planet. and I fish mine just like Randy. if I need a little weight I put a little split shot above it and or I won't put any weight. I'll put a barrel swivel with about 16 inches of line between the hook and the barrel swivel and the barrel swivel actually acts as a small weight and reduces all the line twist. using the barrel swivel has probably saved me from losing so many fish

Do you prefer when wacky rigging to stick the hook thru the worm simply because of the orientation of the book to the worm?? If you take a small o ring under the o ring around the bait and then make a u with t smaller o ring it allows you to keep that orientation you mentioned you liked does it not??

Yes a U or an X turns the hook 90 degrees. They also make a ring with a loop on top which solves hooking under the ring or through the worm.

Are yum plastics such as the yum dinger also salt impregnated?? Also is it ever beneficial to use a stick bait that isn't soft and pliable but rather more hard and stuff?? I got some somewhere one time that where more on the stuff side but never ended up using them, just wondering if that kinda plastic would ever be preferred for anything
@BassFishingDeclassified
@BassFishingDeclassified Жыл бұрын
I believe the Yum Dingers are not salt impregnated, the bag has the salt in it so they are coated with salt. The stiffness of the dinger can be a different preference by the individual angler. The dingers are more stiff so you will be able to use more per fish catches. This helps the angler but some anglers prefer the softer thickness. In my opinion both have a time and place. The dinger and the senko both catch a lot of fish for sure! - Jimi

I've contended for years that bass do not care about how you have a worm hooked. It is the simple water displacement that makes them strike it MOST of the time. I've caught them on a watermelonseed finesse worm in green water, AT NIGHT. Color matters, but, more often, it is simply getting your worm in a bass' vicinity where they pick up it's water displacement with their lateral line.

I don’t agree with Kyle on the O-Ring. I have learned to use 2 O-Rings just cross one over the other. Now you formed an X put your hook through the center of the X. And the hook will give the same result as spearing the hook through the Worm. As the direction Kyle was explaining he wanted the hook exposed. The benefits are the bass can’t slide the worm out of the O-Ring. I have had that happen. I reel back and all I have is a O-Ring on a bear hook. So the X pattern holds the Worm on so much better with an extremely high increased success rate.

I still figure that anybody that grew up throwing a bubble gum floating work can throw, and skip off a baitcaster, 18 years of fishing and I still have no use for a spinning outfit.. in my opinion if you set your baitcaster correctly you can skip just as good if not better than a spinning rig whether it be a wacky rig, floating worm, fluke or a jig

You better watch out! I made a joke in a video about spinning rods being a fairy wand…. I had everybody come after me! Even if you do not prefer them…. They are used and catch a lot of fish - Jimi.

Spinning rods are great for a wacky work. Nothing like catching a 7 pounder on 8 pound test!

Thinking spinning rods are necessary for light baits is getting outdated! I don't own one and won't ever again. And not because they're "fairy wands" but because modern baitcasters and lighter casting rods can do everything a spinning can while offering much more control and casting efficiency.

@@ferndelisle that's based on inexperienced spinning reel experience or you're just one of those guys. I can take I'd say close to if not 99% of spinning reels in good working order and cast more precisely and far more consistently than any casting setup I've ever tried. Daiwa tatula elite will not throw bladed lures on 8-17lb test without a backlash 1 in 2-300 casts which is unacceptable for the price and hype by paid fisherman. I caught fish on it and enjoyed the reeling and pitching aspect of it but the drag always sucks so I crank it to the max -2 and use a moderate slow rod but even with a heavy fast action it wouldn't cast perfect for an entire fishing trip like spinning rods do

Targeting bass on spawning beds is illegal here in Pa. Use two rings to wacky rig a worm without the hook angle problem. Can't believe this Kyle guy doesn't know about it. Some bad advice in this video.

Kyle for sure knows about it. He has caught a few on the wacky rig. Thanks for sharing - Jimi.
