Creating a large bed space and storage in an Astro Van

In this video I talk about creating a large bed space in my astro van. I knew I would be living in my astro van fulltime so a large bed space was a must have. Creating such a large space also allowed for a large storage area under the bed for gear, cloths and my kitchen
The bed mattress is 66 inches long but window to window its 69 inches long and I'm exactly 69 inches. The mattress is also 6 inches thick. The bed space width is 48 inches and if you sleep diagonally, its 80 inches. From floor to top of mattress it is 21 inches.

You'll get 68 or 69 inches from wall to wall if you put plywood going across on top of the wheel wells. Astro vans are wider across on top of the wheel wells If you lower the bed, But then there's only a foot of space under the bed from floor to the plywood platform, but that's plenty. Then just make a rectangular frame between the wheel wells, out of 2x4's and make the bed open like a trunk in the middle.

Yeah I'm about 6 foot and it's tough in my astro. I've rebuilt the bed frame over 5 times, and I'm on my 3rd mattress...especially with my pitty mix who likes to try to push me off the bed.

Also, you can also keep the bed across the back, but make the bed pull out in the middle, down the center isle, like a Letter T.😎😲 Having 2 ways to lay. Then in the morning, slide the middle back in so there's floor space.
