Rereading this it really drives home how much Gojo loved this fight. In some way it’s fair to assume that life got boring being the strongest. In the same way Kashimo desired someone worthy of killing him to fight, to really feel combat, Gojo must’ve felt the same. Sukuna is the person Gojo has been able to emotionally connect to the most since Geto. He hasn’t been around anyone relative to him in power in almost 2 decades. I guess that’s why Gojo and Sukuna seem to have a friendlier relationship than we think because Gojo is expressing himself in the best way he knows how for the first time since hidden inventory.

Also, another HUGE detail I missed was that Sukuna completely revealed Maho's adaptation to a dying/dead Gojo. He had said before, to Jogo, that he wouldn't resort to doing something as petty as revealing his technique to boost its effects. Though, he did that with Gojo (even if he was probably already dead), meaning- 1) Either he didn't plan on using Maho ever again, or 2) He genuinely wanted Gojo to know about adaptation, regardless of whether he would've used Maho again or not. The whole thing about Sukuna "not going all out" was, I believe, in reference to his Heian era form. For those of you that remember, transforming into his Heian era form while fighting Kashimo gave him some more energy, increased his output, and healed his body (plus the whole 4 arms, 2 mouths, and stronger body). Granted, he was still pretty badly beaten from the Gojo fight, but Heian era form boosted him back up to like 5-10%. Even without Mahoraga, if Sukuna used all the energy of his Bumugi form, and then Heian era, pure output would have let him beat Gojo. The problem with that is that then his Heian era form would be badly damaged, and he would've lost to everyone else rather quickly. Getting Mahoraga was the key to killing Gojo AND having enough energy to run the Shinjuku Gauntlet.

​He had to use Mahoraga to get past infinity with 10s because he wanted to upgrade his cleave, not just kill Gojo. If he wanted to kill Gojo straight up, he would have used his Heian Era form when Gojo started catching up after 3 domain clashes. Now, the only reason Gojo didn't die after Mahoraga broke UV was because Sukuna got brain damage from said domain. Sukuna would never be hit by Gojo's domain in this case since he landed it due to being wounded by one of Gojo's blows, which wouldn't happen to a Sukuna with 4 arms, since he could open his domain while boxing Gojo. This also means that, even if Gojo survives the following wrath of MS while being unable to open UV, Sukuna would have a huge advantage and wouldn't get dragged around Shinjuku like in the original fight where he couldn't use his only method to bypass infinity without 10s (Malevolent Shrine). In this scenario, I honestly don't see Gojo winning this, and if he doesn't damage him enough to the point where he's unable to open his domain or use RCT correctly by the end of the fight, the other sorcerers won't be able to compete. Best case scenario, Gojo dies after a close fight and damages Sukuna enough with purple, and since he doesn't have another form to heal his physical body, he'll probably die sooner to the current sorcerers, but worst case scenario is a slaughter where by the end of the fight, Sukuna has both RCT, MS.

No problem, the only reason Gojo was able to keep up at the domain clashes was because he had slightly better hand to hand skills. 2 extra arms would be very, very significant because UV and MS were destroyed at the same time over and over: Sukuna would take damage and his domain would crumble while Gojo's CT would get burnt out from keeping up the barrier. If sukuna had 2 extra arms, the difference could be as little as 1 second, but he would take, even if slightly, less damage than he needed. This would result in Gojo overusing RCT way more often and get driven into a corner which could go either way.

The fight was fantastic from its staging to its execution. It really is the culmination of all the battles in the series and really has everything you would want in a shonen fight. I particularly like how the fight ended because it was a direct callback to Reggie's words to Megumi about sorcerer's being nothing but con men. Gojo played his con, it almost worked, but Sukuna had one better and walked away the victor.

I am a certified Gojo stan and this is top 3 modern manga fights for sure. People trying to clown on Gojo for losing in this fight make me laugh, because they must have been reading with one eye closed. "Sukuna wasn't trying," "Sukuna low diff," "Sukuna was just trying to prove he could overcome Infinity, he could have won earlier if-" blah blah blah. Sukuna was on the back foot for like 2/3 of this fight. Gojo was on offense most of the time. Whenever they threw hands, Gojo won (see: Gojo beating Sukuna so badly during the domain clashes to force him to drop his domain in 3 minutes). Gojo was the one who came up with the idea of using RCT to restore burned-out cursed techniques, Sukuna copied that off him (which is wild when you realize Sukuna never thought of that as a possibility in the last thousand years). Plus, as was established in this video, Gojo went into this fight with close to zero intel, while Sukuna knew pretty much everything about Gojo. Intel is half the battle. For example, if Gojo knew about the conditions for Sukuna's domain, he would have gone in differently from the start. And look, I'm not a Sukuna hater, far from it. I think Sukuna is one of the coolest villains in modern anime (although I do find it funny how much Gege glazes him; he's second only to Yujiro from Baki). But honestly, this fight showcased Gojo's ability more than Sukuna's. Gojo straight-up tanking Malevolent Shrine with RCT, ultimately winning the domain clash (seriously, Sukuna would have been dead at 11:07 if not for Mahoraga), and that *insane* piece of battle IQ at the end to create the final Purple, including using Mahoraga's adaptation against him to get to his own Blue faster... And don't talk to me about Sukuna's Heian form. Two extra arms and an extra mouth does not come close to the amount of power he gets from the Ten Shadows technique. Even if it would have let him keep up with Gojo in hand-to-hand, if it hadn't been for Mahoraga, Gojo could have just stayed at a distance and used Limitless. The amount of preparation that Sukuna needed to do to win here - taking Megumi's body for TS, studying up on Gojo's technique - just shows how powerful Gojo is. Both of them are complete powerhouses, and either way this was going to be a high diff fight because they're so closely matched, but honestly even though he lost I think Gojo came out of this one looking better (right up until the end, at least). Gojo in the afterlife saying "I couldn't even make him go all out" is just crazy. It was Gege trying to build hype for the climactic fight, but it's so obviously untrue that IDK what he was even thinking when he wrote that.
