This association believed that Riko merging with Tengen was bad, they considered Riko an impurity and Tengen a God. Therefor seeing Riko dead is a good thing for them, they believe that Gojo who to them just seems like a random guy did it. That's why they're applauding him.

2:35 Gojo got stabbed by a NORMAL sword, not a cursed tool. Toji used a normal sword specifically to got get detected, gojo just felt the stab and then protected himself inmediately. That is why when toji came out of geto's worm that ate him, gojo said: "That's a different sword than the one that he stabbed me with", because he was not going for a sneak attack anymore so he could use cursed weapons. Also when Toji stabbed gojo he didn't had his cursed spirit with him, so there is no way for him to get close to gojo with a cursed weapon. Please don't take this as criticism or anything, I know this doesn't really get explained in the anime so it's a normal mistake
