Excellent overview Russ Sifu. I learned a lot about the Chinese side of things. On who taught people like Higaonna Kanryo and Uechi Kanbun, etc, when they were in China… My current thinking is that, logistically speaking, any Okinawan who went to China would not have had the opportunity to learn under a “master” of anything. It seems more likely picked up rudimentary hand to hand forms/skills from the Green Standard Army guys who were stationed in the Ryukyukan as security guards (and also probably to make sure no one “snuck off campus” as it were). By the time Higaonna and later Uechi even got to the Ryukyukan, what was probably left was a kind of civilianized version of a few of these basic military forms as retained and reinterpreted by the Kojo family. I may change my tune depending on what else pops up but that is where I am today.

I feel like MhuuThai Boran doesn't get enough comparison to Okinawan Karate.

I'm not aware of any evidence on actual connections, although I do see people posting similarities in execution and application.
