The night before race day, I am performing some prep in the form of clutch cleaning and oil change.

You should also only use red engine oil. Thor or Briggs 4T Amsoil. Also drain you oil when the motor is warm.

A few things that will help you get the max usage out of your Hilliard clutch is to completely disassemble the clutch after every race night inspect your springs for gapping and inspect your shoes which should only be cleaned with a brass wire brush Emery cloth and some WD-40 the rest of the clutch should be cleaned with non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner and the inside of your drum can be touched up and smoothed out with some Emery cloth or Scotch-Brite pad it's also worth noting that the four Springs our best changed out every three to four races this doesn't always mean that they are bad you can inspect them and keep them for spare parts if they are still in decent shape a lot of times what happens is these Springs get hot and tend to open up which will certainly hinder your performance also with your bearing I like to clean mine really good with Simple Green hit it with a little compressed air to blow it out and use fresh high temp Grease every time instead of oil that high temp grease will allow it to stay lubricated during high temp conditions when the clutch heats up whereas oil will break down under the high temp conditions
