@@krampus9361 its a pretty decent support tool, it has stagger power like the relic but with no cooldown. On higher difficulties its the psyker equivalent to stealth for reviving other players.

@@swankmank Assail and Smite serve almost completely opposite purposes. Assail is almost entirely offensive with a small amount of defensive utility and Smite is almost entirely defensive with a small amount of offensive utility. If your goal is just pure damage, sure, Assail will often give you bigger Blitz damage numbers than Smite, but unfortunately, Assail's placement on the talent tree forces you to discard both Wildfire and Psykinetic's Aura, the former being the most powerful force multiplier for Soulblaze and the latter being single the most useful thing a Psyker can have (for both themselves and their teammates in coherency) if they're going to be killing Specialists and Elites all over the place. Consequently most Assail builds have to completely neglect Soulblaze and focus on single-target damage which in my opinion is not playing to the strengths of the Psyker. Honestly I wish the post-Blitz branches of the Psyker talent tree were horizontally flattened like the post-Aura and post-Ability branches. That would eliminate the problem of being forced to neglect Soulblaze for the sake of Assail. At that point I would almost certainly prefer Assail over Smite because speed-tossing three or four pokesticks in the middle of a melee rush would much more efficiently maintain >80% peril with minimal interruption, and as an added bonus it would staggered multiple backline targets outside melee range. That said, Smite can still do a few unique things that nothing else in the game can do. It goes right through walls and floors and jumps to nearby targets, so you can stave off entire swarms that are still on a floor above or below you. And one of my favorite use cases is preemptively screening those stupid poxbursters who spawn close by on the other side of a door. It locks them in place as soon as the door opens and detonates them after a couple seconds, so they never get a chance to leap out at you.
