Only just started playing as a psyker since it released on xbox, and after many frustrating tries (mainly blowing myself up at critical points on mission). Its definitely the most risk/reward class ive played..i love it..

Psyker was my first class and still my favorite even though I am starting to really like Zealot for the melee weapons. But I will forever prefer wizards over anything else.

As a person who has somewhat developed an obsessive tendency to push psyker into the frontliner role over the last 12+ months...few things from my learning experience: * Push that HP and toughness up. With right build and Curious upgrades you should be able to hit: 220+ HP and 150-160+ toughness * Talents like: Mettle, One with the Warp, Empathic Evasion, SG + Endurance TDR node, Kinetic Deflection, and Disrupt Destiny keystone are the core. Stuff like Perilous Combustion helps, but is not necessary * It's likely my personal bias showing but force swords fit the role better, thanks to the finesse and blessing like Riposte, Slaughterer and Precognition, but I also run this with duellist swords and heavy swords, even shock maul. Deimos offers better dodges, but I always liked the Obscurus underdog more. * Unless you run Illisi and abuse the special attack, your main way of maintaining the peril up is rotating the Assail with physical attacks, which interacts nicely with Perfect Timing, Malefic Momentum, One With the Warp and Warp Rider talents * Bolt pistol has replaced the OG / fan revolvers on these builds for me. Why those? Ability to quickly kill the DD targets for extra bonuses, especially the movement speed boost adds a nice flow to combat. @@Reginald-sc9tk Hardly tips, I'm just happy someone else is enjoying the slightly more unhinged psyker builds 😁 Psyker as a class has a lot of talents which augment weakspot hits and crits, or get triggered by those, so I feel that works naturally with weapons which complement such interactions. One of the reasons why I like these hybrid psyker builds. As a class it has probably the highest number of interactions which feed into each other: peril & damage, peril and damage resistance, headshots and peril venting, crits & targeted kills giving buffs, crits - warp damage - physical damage feeding into each other. Psyker is never going to be as survivable in melee as zealot, but it has a unique, mobile playstyle which can be quite rewarding to "master".

I've also been trying to do some melee Psyker action since the big update and having some difficulty with it. I've come to a lot of the same conclusions as you. If feels pretty good when it's working, but if your toughness gets broken it doesn't have the survival tools of Zealot or Veteran, so I often end up folding in that scenario if there's say a couple gunners nearby stun locking me. I've actually been enjoying the Devil's Claw the most with it so far. I also went with the Zarona revolver for the better damage vs carapace, although I like the bolt pistol more in terms of fun factor. Illisi was also decent, but it felt slower and I had more issues with ragers, which the Devil's Claw trivializes.

I only have 1 build using warp splitting and it's a derpy one; using smites "charge strike" which does about 50-60 damage to horde enemies with a Illisi Blaze force sword with Shred and Blazing Spirit. The cleave just applies more effect procs.

Wonder how it would shake out if warp splitting gave extra cleave damage as well, but was limited to only melee? Also that ending bit of " Psyker clutch let's go" to immediately eating shit is golden. Good to see our fumbling still gave you something good.

I appreciate the inclusion of lower power builds. I've been playing with more Exe Stance builds on vet lately, and have been having a lot of "oh, I'm not as good as I thought" moments. You forget that veteran is actually pretty squishy when they aren't immune to damage for 90% of the map. A few comments on the build, if they're welcome: I think the cleave issue you're running into with Warp Splitting has more to do with the Chainaxe than the talent. Looking at the Chainaxe IV stats on the DT Breakpoint Calculator, it seems that the heavies have a damage cap of 4 targets? Try using the talent with the push attack, which doesn't seem to have a damage cap, or a different weapon with no damage cap to test. You should see if you can spec into Warp Rider and One with the Warp, as they will further boost your damage and survivability respectively, if you can keep your peril up (although this will probably oblige you do drop Anticipation, making the chaxe dodges even worse, but on the plus side it does net you Empathic Evasion). I also think you spec too hard into melee peril cleanse. My experience is that just By Crack of Bone is really all that you need, and that the problem is actually maintaining high peril, rather than being able to cleanse it. Attempting to milk toughness from peril quell instead of just warp kill via Soulstealer is also a pretty expensive choice - try leaning harder into Assail weave for toughness regen by picking up Quick Shards, and see if you feel like it's enough. Droppable talents are prolly Battle Meditation, Warp Expenditure, Cruel Fortune, Warp Speed and Purloin Providence. Something like this maybe? (/build-editor?id=9d3a73b5-b6b8-4b05-bed9-500c6ba0f595) Sucks that you can't get the second Assail upgrade, but it would require you to drop Warp Splitting or Quietude, which would be a really painful choice.

Psyker squishyness will always be an issue, but the Dueling sword and the force sword with blaze soul really help stave off some of the hardships.

@@Reginald-sc9tk if you used the other chainaxe and replaced the bleed blessing with thrust +25% carapace damage you could one shot a crusher. Or, at least 2 shot it. That same scenario with my melee vet, or just a focus fire and 1 or 2 1stacks of thrust will trivialize a small group of crushers. I do the same ax set up with zealot.

I couldn't clutch a malice mission last night because the enemies wouldn't stop spawning and then a sniper appeared somewhere far off that had a vantage point on my downed teammates. So i had no chance to rez. And since they didnt stop spawning, i had no opportunities to take out the sniper. I died trying to. Had I been zealot or even my lvl 17 ogryn I could've won that easily but I guess I'm not there yet with psyker.

I'm really enjoying chainaxe4 on my gunpsyker. I agree chainaxe is hardly best in slot for gunpsyker but it is fun as hell. I lean more on assail for horde thinning and distant specials so I take true aim and fewer melee talents. Scriers gaze and flame recon melts monsters.

This build is pretty close to a typical build so swapping in different weapons, like a laspistol and duelling sword will net you huge advantages over this build.

I will premeptively vouch for the MK12 Chaxe on Psyker. Push attack staggers ragers on headshot, has high finesse values, and loooooves to be push attack spammed in elite blobs.

@Reginald-sc9tk Yes, that's correct. It feels good and is thematically appropriate for a Zealot. I had concerns the Mk.XII Chainaxe doesn't have enough horde clear, but I think it's just low item level.

@@dougvillegas8303 nah, the MK12 has poor horde clear. Its still a good weapon though and fine enough on zealot. I have tutorials on both chain axes if you haven't seen them and they're still almost entirely relevant, except the push attack on the mk12 has been buffed.

i've got a build idea for you. the recon lasgun m14 has innate cleave i learned recently. the new psyker 100% more cleave works with it. without the talent i hit 3 dudes with it i hit 5. killed 5 groaners with 1 bullet crit with infernus. i'm willing to bet the talent works with shotties too so that possibly saves up a blessing slot for them things

Warp splitting is confusing. Right now it does increase the number of targets my shards damage - and you can see it moves hits from the heavy braced auto from 2 to 3 targets damaged - but melee is a lot harder to test. I can confirm my BM Reshad axe going from hitting and killing 4 newly infected to 5 and sometimes 6 per swing. It is inconsistent, however.

Different weapons have different cleave-damage caps. I don't believe assail has one, so it damages whatever it cleaves. Thats why its confusing and also why I demonstrated with chaxe who's cleave cap is 5...or 4...anyway combat axes cap is reasonably high.

Ranged attack cleave damage isnt calculated the same as melee cleave damage. Warp splitting doesn't benefit melee much, with the exception of giving you more crowd control AND some interactions with talents and blessings which apply damage over time effects like soulblaze, bleed electrocute. With ranged attacks is simpler, as there is no ranged damage fall-off on hit, so based on what I have tested extra cleave can double your damage output with high enough peril in situations where you are able to cleave through specific enemies IF you can cleave one.

The average player can't beat malice with meta builds 😭 I carry so often in malice and I'm by no means a good player. I've never even played an auric mission. But by the emperor the people in malice are aggrevating when you're trying to lvl up. Heresey and Damnation are easier than malice. I fail less Heresey and Damnation than I do Malice and IT'S NUTS. Even if they're all lvl 30 😭😭 when I'm playing a max level character it is what it is, but when I'm leveling up it gets annoying wasting an hour because people can't play the game.
