They did a homage to this scene in DB Super . If you go back to the DB Super, the episode where Baba was resurrecting Friza, Goku was wait for them at this very place, and you would see that Goku while waiting was fighting all by himself , the scene was just for a couple of second and seemed random. But that fight choreography is EXACTLY THE SAME fight choreography as this goku vs grandpa gohan fight! Goku was just reincarnating this very fight . Just his was to remember his grandpa.

Guys remember when goku was dead in the after life he trained and unlocked ssj3 and was stronger than everyone else (which we already knew he would be lol) and the reason behind it is because when your dead you can train past your bodies limits unlock on earth!! Grandpa gohan most definitely was training when he died and as a result got as strong as goku in this arc!!

For me, Grandpa Gohan and Bulma are the most important people in Goku's life, without them he would not have been the way he is and he would not have had the life he has or the experiences he has had. one of my favorite chapters of the entire franchise. It demonstrates the heart of the series and the importance of other people in someone's life. Thanks guys for these reactions, I've been on the channel since the beginning but I don't comment much. Ah...Grandpa Son Gohan's appearance always make me cry. And more since my dad has passed away 4 years ago. I wished I can have like Goku, a little time to see him again. So he can watch with his own eyes the dad I became and the grand daughter he never knew. Goku is still a 12 years old kid, it's normal for him to cry, even if he doesn't know that he killed his own grandfather.

Pretty sure most of us thought that in DBZ Goku would reunite with Gohan somehow, especially after Goku discovers he is the reason his grandpa is dead while fighting Vegeta. Would had been amazing if Goku had asked to Yemma about him instead of Raditz when he died.

Super actually does pay omage to this When Goku is waiting for Baba to bring Frieza back, he's training on the stage. But he's actually recreating the battle he had with his grandfather. 😢😊 Such a sweet and beautiful moment that always gets me emotional, seeing Goku cry and hug his Grandfather. This whole journey was about being close to him again, and when he was going to give all that up so Upa wouldn't have to feel that loss as well, he was rewarded. Beautiful Story Telling

The whole “can’t bring anyone back after a year” is a misconception, (as shown by Frieza being brought back in super) the 1 year rule is only for groups of people, single individuals can be revived at any time
