Benny Blackburn, Ivan Parker, Jerry Ritchie, Tim Riley. I had this for many years, hoping a better copy would come along. But it hasn't. I tihink is is still watchable for a fan. Recordrd May 1984 in Atlanta.

Tim Riley's hair regrowth ranks right up there with Arthur Rice as one of the great miracles in SG music, lol.

With Hair-Pieces, all things are possible! (At least, when it comes to hair)! Sure miss Brian Free here, but this Tenor, Mr. Benny Blackburn, does a fine job!

@@cincinnatipedalsteel4347Amen! Those guys were something else, though, weren't they? They could about sing the roof off of a place, though. Jake Hess had one of the most definitive Lead/Baritone voices. And so did Eldridge Fox!

This was after Brian left the first time. I believe this was also the tour when Benny left the group while they were in North Carolina. Jerry Ritchie called me to fill in the rest of the tour. I was a deputy sheriff in Georgia at the time and my Sheriff was good enough to let me off for the rest of their tour. Brian came back shortly thereafter. It was an interesting time.

You were the group's original tenor, right?

I first saw Ivan Parker in person in March 2019. Since then I have seen him 6 or 7 times. I love seeing him on KZbin videos especially way back when he was first with Gold City. Love his love for Jesus, and the joy he brings to the music. Thanks for sharing.

Wait a minute! I already knew that Jerry Ritchie had passed away from, I think, Cancer, back in 2007. What was Benny Blackburn's cause of death?

I still remember the time, when Ray Dean Reese, the former Bass Singer for the Kingsmen Quartet, had been looking around in his House for something, and came across one of those big Microphones, that you could have 3-4 people gathered around to sing. He used it on their "Shelter" Live Recording, back in 1999. I saw the footage, and it looks like they had a lot of fun, a'singin around that big ole thing!

To me, Gold City’s best sound was during this era. Live band with a steel guitar, excellent song choices, solid voices that mesh well...just an enjoyable sound. I think they drifted from it in later years; that’s not a criticism, just an observation. Of course they always had a remarkable sound, but this is just my favorite.

They aren’t wireless. They look like a steroid-version of Bob Barker’s Price is Right microphone.

Good grief! They done hired 'em a Yankee for this Group? Then again, they had 'em a Cherokee Indian, that was as hilarious and nutty, as the day was long, in Ol' Ivan Parker! I miss these days, that's for sure!

This is a great find! I'm a bit confused because Brian Free had already been a member of the group at this point. Wondering if he left the group or had to be off the road for a stint.

I think Brian Free was going to college during this time. This will probably answer the question better than I could though: blog.musicscribe.com/?p=20542

+Branden Blackwell I believe history has been revised. When I saw Gold City around 1984, Benny was presented as the tenor and Brian was said to be gone. They were getting radio play and starting to get popular, Brian re-appeared and Benny was driving a dump truck in Georgia.

+Irl Grundy I had no idea. That's interesting, I know history can get a little twisted around through the years.

Thanks for the input guys. I love following the history of the groups. Benny is a pretty great tenor
