Following programme to Gold Fever mini series ( 3 episodes ), which recaps on the events of the British IV- leading up to the Sydney Olympics and also what happened during and shortly after
Had this on video for yonks and finally got around to uploading it (and i had discovered someone else had kindly uploaded Gold Fever 1-3, which i never saw when originally broadcast)

The video is so good, that you can fit 90 minutes of steady state into a 58 minute video!

Steve Redgrave isn't just the greatest British Olympian - he's the greatest, full stop. Michael Phelps - apart from not maintaining the standard for as long as Redgrave - had a crack at 7 or 8 medals (don't actually know the true figure, but it was a lot) at each Olympics. Steve Redgrave started every 4-year quest targeting a single gold. In a genuine endurance event. And he cracked it every time. No contest in my opinion.

Redgrave was great, but Phelps won 23 gold medals. He won the same event (200 IM) at 4 straight Olympics. Can’t see how Redgrave’s achievements, amazing as they are, beat that.

@@Tester-scratch And I disagree, for the reasons I said. Redgrave won 3 different events over 5 Olympics, for a total of 5 gold (and 1 bronze). Phelps won 5 different individual events over 5 Olympics, for a total of 13 individual gold medals (plus 10 relay gold medals). There really is no comparison. Redgrave is great, but Phelps is the GOAT.

@@markbendall2460 I think you'll find Phelps was 'only' actually successful at 4 Olympics. Redgrave won gold over a 16-year span, in an ENDURANCE event. Well just have to agree to disagree

@@Tester-scratch Happy to agree to disagree, but if you think the 400 IM isn’t an endurance event you have obviously never swum it. Phelps only won events at 4 Olympics, but in his first he finished 5th in the 200 fly at just 15. That on its own is impressive.
