It would be nice to see a close-up finished view of the product.

I’m confused why the video ended mid way?
@thehautebohemian57535 жыл бұрын
I stopped the video at the end, I just didn’t film polishing the rings. You can use a tumbler or Pro-polishing pads from Riogrande.com to give the piece a bright finish.

Hi there! I recently bought the same solder you used in this video (from Rio) and I noticed the solder turned silver. I was also working on a gold filled ring. Any advice? Also, thank you your videos!
@thehautebohemian57534 жыл бұрын
Carol Salcedo I haven’t had any issues with the solder turning silver. You can maybe try a higher karat solder to see if there is any difference.

@@thehautebohemian5753 Which was the solder you used?
@thehautebohemian57534 жыл бұрын
Clara Andriessen I use either 8K or 10k gold solder from Riogrande. Solder paste may be a good option if you’re soldering a small area.

@@thehautebohemian5753 is the 8 krt solder leaving a less good matching mark on the ring then the 14 krt does? Do you not consider a ring to be a small part to solder and thus unsuitable for soldering paste? Thanks for sharing your idea's I make earrings with goldfilled wire, if you'd like to look at my idea's for inspiration you're welcome: www.claartje.net

I’ve had such a hard time with gold filled mainly because of fire scale! Any tips on making the whole process better?

I’d love to know what tools/products you use!! :)
@thehautebohemian57535 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! I get most my products from Riogrande.com. For this video I used 18ga gold filled wire and 10k gold easy solder. The flux and pickle are also from Rio. I’ve never had any issues with it.
@thehautebohemian57535 жыл бұрын
I usually have a fair amount of fire scale and blackening of the metal. I’d suggest using flux on the whole piece before using any flame. Try to keep the flame to a minimum. I then put the piece in a pickle solution. The hotter the better. Lastly I’ll throw the pieces in a tumbler and they end up very shiny without any fire scale.

What happened? Is there a follow-up video?
@thehautebohemian57532 жыл бұрын
I made this video a couple years ago and don’t know why I ended it like that 🤔. Anyway, I pickled the ring then tumbled for 30 minutes and they came out bright and shiny.
