Gold leaf 101 everything you need to know about Gilding

Hello and Welcome back to my art vlog.
As promised today's episode is about how to use gold leaf. it is simpler than you may think and very versatile and so shiny! I use gold leaf a lot and once you have the basics down it is very easy I am sure you will be using gold leaf in all of your artwork.

Hi there! I'm thinking of doing this to some leather notebooks I'm ordering with a design I made. Do you know if the varnish will cause damage to the leather? Asking since you seem pretty experienced with this stuff lol

Well thanks for the vote of confidence 😃 I wouldn’t think it would damage it but I’d do a test patch in an inconspicuous area to be certain. Sounds like a beautiful project! 🌸💖

Nice! Does this adhesive stick to varnished surfaces?

Thanks Jane. 😃. To be sure of long term adhesion it would be best to give the surface a light sand first, if you can.

Hi Elizabeth. David Marks is the master in chemical based patina’s. You can buy his DVD via his website www.djmarks.com My local art supply store stocks various pots of patina effects in the gilding section. Perhaps yours does too? Mostly, experiment and have fun 😄👍
