Gold Mine and A Cabin Built Into Boulders

Short and sweet little hike out to this site, but lots of awesome stuff to be seen! Not only was there equipment including a jaw crusher and compressor, but my buddy Trevor and I came across an early 1900's miner's cabin built into large boulders. Even got into a couple holes along the way even if they weren't too extensive. Hope y'all enjoy.

What an incredible find, the miner’s cabin is a find of a lifetime! It’s so wonderful that it hasn’t been vandalized or burned up. Even the glass window panes were intact! Incredible!

@@terrypanama8004 Oh, I agree. I suspect people found artifacts all over the site and place them there, and clean up here and there. It would be full of packrat nests in there if not. Still really nice to see people visiting and taking care of things, versus the more common scenario.

I've come across a few abandoned mine sites from the 20's-30's. Most often their left in ruins sometimes they're still structurally sound enough to explore but unfortunately the more accessible ones tend to be vandalized beyond repair especially with graffiti on the landscape or historic peices. The trick to finding the good ones it to go beyond where the riff raff is willing/ capable of reaching. Aka hard-core 4x4

I came across what I believe was an old silver mine in Arizona from the 20s-30s as estimated by the surrounding equipment and structure. There were still ingot molds and a huuuuuuuge slag run off that stretched some 20+ feet from below the structure down the hillside. It was super cool and there was still silver within the slag as evident by the characteristic patina. Probably not worth the effort to refine non professionally and not a significant enough amount to warrant professional extraction AND refinement but it was super cool nonetheless to stand on a giant slab of silver slag big enough to park 2 jeeps on end to end. It was atleast a foot thick too. Don't even bother asking where it was 😭 That was probably 15+ years ago and I'm sure the site has been pillaged already

This place reminds me of the old mines my friends and I used to find out in the Mojave. We spent a lot of time out there when we were in our late teens and early 20's. We're in our mid-60's now, those of us who are still alive. It gladdens my old heart to see a place like this still exists, and that people seem to be taking care of it, rather than looting it. It's like a living museum. Please don't tell anyone where it's at. That way maybe, just maybe my grandchildren and your childrem will experience the same sense of wonder we felt when we first came across places such as this. Good work, kid! First class site, first class video. The time and effort you put into finding this place paid off.

Mid 60's does not an old man make... Where I live the average age of my neighbours is mid 80's (and I'm by far the youngster of the estate at a mere 44). That said, I imagine you have some great stories of your adventures in the Mojave finding mines and relics back in the day.

Looking at that jaw crusher I can tell you a few things. The two hubs with the broken spokes was probably another fly wheel. The more mass to the flywheels the harder the rock you can crush. The bearings on either side of the jaw are probably sleeve bearings and the pockets above them were most likely for constant drip lubrication. The mine I used to work at had it's big brother. A 48 inch throat set for 4 inch minus and a 400 hp wound rotor motor. The main flywheel was 9 foot diameter and weighed about 8 tons.

As a local who has visited this site with frequency (proposed to my wife about half a mile up the trail from that site), I really appreciate you have not shared with this is. It's now on google maps so visitation has increased considerably, but it is still standing pretty much the same has been for decades. Thank you for your discretion with this video.

Cool video. It’s nice to see an old miners cabin that hasn’t been looted and destroyed. I thought some were still out there somewhere but it is really nice to actually see it. Don’t tell anyone where it is because someone would ruin it. You guys are doing what I did in the 80s and 90s Exploring every thing possible. Keep doing what you love. There will come a day when you get too old for this stuff and you will have all of the memories and photos I still get out and explore but I can’t go as far as I used to. It's probably the best it's going to get, it's in the Joshua Tree National Park. I have a video of the hike to it from the Desert Queen side, which is where he started. This location is pretty well known now, there is a well worn trail to it. Twelve years ago when I found it the first time there was no trail.

Thanks for taking a moment to show us the mechanicals / machinery that was used. As a working class guy , I just love old tools and machines and enjoy looking at then to imagine how they may have worked and sounded for the people that depended on them in years back. Too many explorers just completely skip mechanical rooms and machinery when they do explorations and its such a shame to miss out on showing us that part of the work history. Industrial archeology is a new field of study. That is, archeologists who explore or excavate workshops & factories from the historical era. In other words, people with PhDs who do much like these fellows do, only they record very carefully & in great detail what they find -- then publish their findings in technical journals. And often they rely on materials like this video because far too often when they explore sites like these they've been looted or vandalized.

All of your films document some great mines and I always think of the lives of the people whose work it was to dig tunnels into the rock and extract whichever minerals, metals and ores out, but this really brought it to the fore. I have been imagining who lived in that home. I suppose a lot depends on what was being mined and how big an operation it was. It's a touch of home comfort in an inhospitable environment. When your friend walked in saying Hello! I jumped out of my skin! I had visions of someone from The Hills Have Eyes and was very pleased that it was a nice looking young fellow that you knew. Heart attack averted, I enjoyed seeing all of the cabin's features. I like that you don't take souvenirs, and let these places stay as they were left, it's respectful. I also liked that very long tunnel, but wonder if there were any others of a similar size around there.

Well, that certainly taught me a lot regarding alternative architecture during the hippie era. I loved the beautiful natural wooden roof supports inside the dwelling, actually, loved the whole explore ! Got a bit nervous when you went in the old tunnels, l am not that brave enough to in as deep as you did! The hippies thought they were the original simple living and earthy type builders!
