Got to explore a couple sites, looking for old mine sites that are known to carry good values in gold and copper. Both sites have HUGE potential for the future. And I am very excited I found an old adit I have been looking for. It was right under my nose!

Did you know they make drones for tunnels? They have a cage around them so the blades don't hit things. Its not only safer, but could get you a lot of interesting footage.

Pyroxene often contains other minerals like Scandium, vanadium and a host of light weight metals including Lithium. You might consider an assay on your pyroxene, it might be low in copper but high in a metal used today that was waste a 100 years ago.

I have a system where I take heavy duty orange plastic bags with handles. As I collect I leave the bags along my trail and when I return I collect the bags. If you take care of them you can use them many times. You only have to carry the heaviest load the shortest distance possible. I do not think I ever lost a rock I wanted to pick up on the way back with this system.

It's the stuff that gets caught. Drive slow, park on rocks, fire extinguisher, keep vehicle in site untill cool always look back for smoke. Nothing worse than lighting your exit on 🔥 or truck/quad. Even damp sphagnum dries on the exhaust and burns... I've heard😉

Great and intriguing exploration - maybe try to find old articles / documents and drawings / photos of the mine site that will help to complete the overall picture of this former mining operation. As for the cameras: As a photographer, I prefer the crisp, vivid footage the GoPro provided in your other videos. While the iPhone takes great stills (railroad tracks inside the mine), the video colors looked a bit washed out. I also got distracted by the camera's struggle to focus in the shade (almost made me dizzy). I never noticed anything like that with your previous videos. My vote clearly goes to the GoPro for video footage.

Your videos are awesome Dan. Making me want to explore my property in globe, arizona. My cousin and I own a few acres in the old ghost town of copper hills which was a copper (and other minerals) mining area. On our lane we have old big mining structures and a capped mining hole that is known as the bottomless pit. It’s 1400 feet down and about 75 feet wide. It’s real name was the Boston-superior mining shaft. It has horizontal tunnels all through it on the way down that lead to all the other locations like the mill and what not. We have all sorts of copper, quartz, malachite, and so many other ores all over just the ground surface. You can’t walk 10 feet without finding so many cool rocks. Can only imagine what we could in earth.

I noticed that the quality was a bit lower than usual today. A bit less sharp, a bit more artifacting in fast movements. Then you mentioned the change in filming equipment, which explained it. I think it is not bad, but I prefer the highest possible quility, so I like the gopro better. But I also understand, especially on hot days and out in the wild, that it is much easier and lighter setup to just use a phone.

DAN! Your quad problems..I’m not sure if you’ve messed much with it but you should try replacing the brake fluid with DOT 4 or whatever the equivalent for you is. It has a higher boiling point but also doesn’t thermally expand as much. But just putting new fluid in can get rid of any absorbed water which can effect boiling points and thermal expansion as well.
@dustyc324

flush out that old fluid. $10 for enough brake fluid to flush that bike thoroughly. also old rubber hoses can get crumby.

one other thing is to replace the soft brake lines becuase they can swell on the inside and act like a check valve not letting the brake fluid to return to the master and locking up the wheels.

If they were processing the copper into metal the process in the furnace created carbon monoxide and as the crushed ore was roasted with charcoal the rock would give off an oxide molecule to create a stabler carbon dioxide and once the oxide molecule was released from the ore the copper was released to become a metal instead of chemical compound.

When in fire country like the Okanogan (we were on the US side, Mt. Hull, Tonasket, etc) we would take a mylar foiled 'space blanket' to park on. Rolls up, super light, and keeps the tinder from contacting the hot metal. Keep the water for yourself on those hot days.

I speculate that you metal furnace looking object that you're referring to is part of a parkland refinery process where they use excessive amounts of heat burn off some of the sulfides to help with the crush or to capture mercury.

The GoPro videos are definitely superior unless you've also changed the way you're encoding or such. I'm this video I'm seeing way more compression style artifacts; this shows up when you pan around (lots of pixels changing.). Also the autofocus and depth of field looks very "home movie" rather than professionally made content.

If the Merritt in this video is at all associated with the little logging town of Merritt, B.C (I know you do most of your work in B.C) then cool! I used to live in the town in the 1980's. At the time, it was 8400 people, three logging mills (that I knew of), a lot of stoner bikers, & way too many bars. The area you were in looks a lot like what I recall, & it's still gorgeous.

27:02 When I was a kid I used to fix tings, repair untying. I remember working on Toasters, that had natural Mics as the insulars, this was SOO Much better than the less popular Asbestos insulators. So, One slab of Mica, about 2mm thick, on each side, and one in the middle you know, roughly the size of a piece of toast, and had the electrical heating element wrapped around the Mica The Mica itself would glow in parts. Although it was an excellent electrical insulator, it tended to absorb some heat, which would reflect back on th bread. I swear they made better toast back then.
