Very educational, relaxing, and oddly rewarding to share in your sincere joy and passion for nature! Keep up the amazing work as a Canadian conservationist and educator! #TrueNorth

The secret of these flat competition pans is they spread the material over a wide area so there is no significant depth of material for the gold to work its way through to reach the bottom of the pan. In some ways a flat pan is similar to a batea but, with a batea, the closer you get to the center, more depth is created for the gold to work its way down to the bottom. As always, Dan is my “go to” guy for intelligent and objective testing of various gold equipment.

You guys are allowed to dig out of the wetted perimeter up there? Down in WA, can only harvest material out the frequently scoured area ie can't put a shovel under water.. just wondering. It would make sense that regulations make more sense up there.
@speedplow28454 жыл бұрын
We're not allowed actually, no sluices or suction sniping either. Nothing that disturbs the sediment and dirties the water.
@frankbush83683 жыл бұрын
@@speedplow2845 copy. similar focus here on not dirtying water. So keep in mind I'm a novice here: when you pan and a plume comes out while you're washing material out, is that technically against the rules? The rules here say 'no visible sediment plumes into the wetted perimeter', but I'm just not sure how you don't get a bit of a sediment plume when panning. It doesn't matter if I've already classified, or am panning raw material from the shovel, always some plume for about the first half of the pan.. and certainly the entire time panning if there's clay in it. What's your take on that? If the rule were taken literally in every instance, panning or doing anything in the water would be a violation..

Interesting experiment with the flat pan, though if I were to get serious about the hobby I’d definitely invest in the Batea pan based both on your review several months ago and the Vo-Gus channel has fallen in love with how much material it can move and it’s gold retention.

My tests put the flat pan just above the Batea for both capture and speed. But still like my Garrett for convenience.
