There are several inactive gold mines near me. The area was the 4th largest producer of gold in Alaska in history. They all have a stream near them or a stream coming out of the mine. I never see anyone panning. I just wonder why. I see a lot of people picking blueberries.

That sample reminded me of a KZbin video I saw where someone went in to a hardware store and bought "I think play sand?" and really did find gold in the whole big bag, but it was like 0.01g. Really confusing buy, all that effort that went in to that packaging, it is really a hit and hope scenario/seller.

Hey Shane Is there difference between the different colors of Pans or is it just personal preference ? I just purchased a couple black ones but they only small riffles in them . I also have an Old metal one that my Parents purchased back in 73 . Not 1873 . I have noticed that the plastic ones do get scuffed from the larger stuff . Is this beneficial in helping the smaller Gold to stick in the pan ?

Rob Dedrick. It’s personal preference, I prefer green pans. Yeah the more scuffed up a pan the more “seasoned” it is. Always better using a well seasoned pan

I'm willing to bet the seller is panning an area where he had found a few colors and is trying to sell some cheap bags on the chance you may find a few colors yourself. It's definitely not a lot of money so it's hard for a reasonable person to complain. But then again there's not always going to be a lot of reasonable people out there. LOL. Thanks tho for reviewing this product for us the viewers brother. It can certainly save a few bucks cash and save a few crazy's from blowing their lid when they don't read the sellers description.

I can tell pyrite is pyrite in a larger chunk, but how can you tell while panning that it is not gold? Color? Weight?

When it’s really fine pyrite the easiest way to know it’s pyrite is the way it acts in the pan compared to the blAck sands. The pyrite will move quicker and more freely. Another big giveaway is the pyrite will shine differently when you tilt the pan (especially in the shade). Gold will stay yellow and pyrite will change shades. Mike Baize sure, gold is always heavier, will not shatter and will still be bright yellow even in the shade. Pyrite will be brittle, usually has a flat edge, lighter than gold, and will not stay yellow in the shade especially when tilting it side to side.

How do you tell pyrite from gold?

Pyrite will not stay the same shade of yellow when in the shade and tilting the pan back and forth. It’s also much lighter than gold and is brittle as well. Pyrite usually has at least on or two flat surfaces, or edges. Gold never will

fool's gold is brittle and will break not bend. it won't look like gold in the shade and it moves easy in a pan. hope that helps
