FYI - The blue or green solution is mixed copper chlorides, it picked up the chlorine from the salt. You never added sulfuric acid or any other source of a sulfate anion, so there is no way it could have formed copper sulfate.

Noted. Thank you for your insights. Sounds like you have a better understanding about the chemistry than I do.

pro tip: if you get a lot of insoluble green salts and you want to filter, add a little hydrochloric acid and it dissapears.

I’m happy you liked it 😊 Yes. You just need a larger container and more chemicals.

can I use this method for recover gold from mobile phone pcb board with a lot solder attach on it. thank mate

I don’t know how the citric acid react with the tin/lead/silver, but it’s not very potent and it can only desolve very very small quantities of base metal. Also it’s important to not have any tin present in the refining stage. It makes everything more difficult. HCL, peroxide I find is the best way of removing the solder and releasing the gold for refining.

Can this system be used also for pins or plated boards?
@johannesthe5th1542 жыл бұрын
I suppose it could, but I’ve be a little concerned with the boards though. I don’t know how it would react with different kinds of solder. Also with the price. It takes a large quantity of citric acid to put small amounts of base metals in solution. Then you’ve be left with a lot of toxic waste to get rid of. Here where I live citric acid isn’t cheap 😬 I tried once to desolve a gold filled wrist watch in citric acid. It took A LOT of acid. But it worked just fine. I guess more experiments are needed. 😊
Using Citric acid and Hydrochloric acid why do peeps always do what's not in the description

HCL was used for putting copper nitrate back in solution. Not to recover the gold. I made a mistake when applying the heat to the citric salt solution that caused the precipitation. Oh well. Trial and error I guess. I think the desperation is accurate enough 😊

@@johannesthe5th154 lol I know it's trial and error and do far of the 400 I've seen to date because I have 12 baby jars full of pins I've pulled off motherboards and some twenty pounds of gold fingers I'm not complaining just explaining

Well yeah kinda. But you stil put copper and other heavy metal ions into solution. It would contaminate water resources if disposed in the drain or nature..
