Why not the ceramic ones or even the pins on the boards themselves, that's we're most of my pins are from the gold plated pins on the boards..or it's the same , but you just decided to use what you had ? I am in no means an expert but I don't know what karat it is but once you process it and use nitric acid and urea and smb it will be 24k.... I THINK... correct me if I'm wrong. But you need to get everything out of it sometimes it has lead and other metals if any get into the gold it wont be 24k

Karat is measure of Gold Content. In other words, a unit of proportion of gold in an alloy equal to 1 - 24 part of pure gold.

A drop or two of Sulfuric Acid added to the Aqua Regia will precipitate out Lead Sulfide crystals. They can be filtered out with the rest of the detritus. The first time through the process yields .995% fine. The second time through yields 999 fine. (We are quibbling over about 5/1000 ths?.) For all intents even 99% is considered as 24 K.. You will alwaysn have some impurities. You can get 9999 or 99999 if you use electrolysis of 999 fine.

It is pretty much all Gold Plate. (Other than the Gold Bonding wires inside of the IC chips which are mere microns thick...) Much less than a Karat would be your answer. The Gold plating can vary between 10 Karat up to 24 Karat. It is *Gold Plated*. You are not going to get rich doing this. This is done for fun. (He shredded 50 CPUs for about a half gram of Pure? What does one CPU cost brand new?) Go to the Gold Refining Forum, download Hoke's book, READ IT, and then converse with them. The manufacturers are not going to put $50 in Gold into a $500 phone much less a $50 phone. Think about it. There has been only 180 Metric Tonnes of Gold mined in the past 10,000 years The mines are almost depleted as it stands. It is estimated that the Earth's Gold Mines will be exhausted, mined out, of Gold in the next Twenty Years. E Scrap is 3 Times as rich as ore than current Gold Ores in operational mines. On a large Industrial Scale, processing tons of E Scrap it is profitable. But on this scale it is tedious and time consuming. This is a hobby. This is like panning for Gold on a weekend.

I have been trying to remove the pins from cpu's. I have followed the method in your video but am not able to get the pins out. Is there a trick to it that I'm missing? I'm holding the cpu's close to the heat gun. The heat gun is on high. And after several minutes the pins are still hanging on tight.

Scrapper dude, good video up to the point where you pulled out the bottle of nitric acid then it all went downhill from there. You used WAY too much nitric acid to dissolve that tiny amount of gold. You could have got the job done with 2 or 3 drops of nitric and some heat on the beaker. The use of urea to denox is incorrect too. By using the minimal amount of nitric acid to dissolve the gold your need to denox the solution is much easier. The use of urea is not necessary nor recommended.

Sure, but first you should know it's good refining practice to use the minimal amount of acids from the start to get the job done. This helps with waste disposal and when it comes time to denox a solution of nitric acid before dropping the gold powder. Slow controlled additions of nitric acid would get the same job done and would have left the solution with a lot less free nitric to denox. There are several methods of denoxing a solution of free nitric to prepare it for dropping and none of the recommended procedures involves urea. I won't go into all the methods here as I could write pages on the subject. It's up to you to research those but the simplest method is the addition of more 24k gold to the solution to consume the free nitric. Another would be the addition of sulfamic acid. Adding sulfamic acid will convert the nitric acid to sulfuric acid which will effectively rid the solution of free nitric and drop any lead from solution as a salt helping to refine it. I strongly suggest you research more on the subject before acting on any of my advice to fully understand what you're doing before hand.

in an other video i seen that they mix sulphuric & nitric acid at the ratio of 2:1, then they pour all the cpu's as it is and didn't heat up the mixture, after a while just filter the remaining using filter and the remaining they called GOLD DUST, and just simply put that in furnace and melt down and get the gold. remember that isn't the 99.9% pure. please help me out which process is better. and can i use baking soda to neutralize the acids mixture.

No. It is a process. if you want to make 99.9% you would have to do the entire process. You can experiment and maybe end up with 10 - 14k your way.

I read some other things and they also said it was not a good idea to go straight to Aqua Regia. The gold on my pins did not float to the top with the 20% HCL from Home Depot. They disappeared. I'm thinking it was because I didn't use enough. I also read to use 10ml 32% HCL for every 10g of pins. I don't think it matters if I use the 20% do you? Also, I removed the Kobar heat plates on my cpu's. I'm thinking I might incinerate to recover the gold on the inside. Do you think there is enough gold to make it worth it?

Figured out what I did wrong. I didn't let it cook long enough. Needs to cook 3-4 hrs and gold foils float to the top. Seems weird gold floats!!

Mike. Good video. However you may want to use a lot less acid. (Be stingy with your chemicals.) You can eliminate the Urea step completely when you are skilled. Geo has some good videos of the process and I think that Drew Metalsmith also uses them. Take your Gold in that hot Muriatic Acid and start adding in Nitric Acid slowly until all of the Gold is dissolved. The Urea neutralizes the EXCESS Nitric Acid. The Muriatic Acid is not neutralized. That solution is still strongly acidic.. It it only transformed into a weak Sulfurous Acid when the Sodium Metabisulfate is added. That it what causes the release of the Gold from the Gold Chloride Salt as the Sodium Ion replaces it to make..Sodium Chloride...Table Salt.. After you have checked your Sulfurous Acid for any unrecovered Gold using Stannous Chloride, it is at that point that the Sulfurous Acid can be neutralized with Baking Soda and thrown out safely.

Mike, you are using way too much acid. Nitric is expensive and sales are monitored. HCL is relatively cheap and 100ml to start should have been OK. Add nitric a couple drops at s time only adding more if there are foils left.
