Hey Mike, just wanted to prove some of these people wrong! I went onto ebay and bought 5000 ounces of aircraft pins and connectors. Now mind you they were 100 mil thick. So I did what you did step by step. Long story short, after letting the acid do its thing and cleaning it and drying. I then smelted it in my small kiln which is made for this. I also have graphite molds 1,2,5,10 and a 20 oz molds. I used the 5 ozt mold and poured out the gold. Guess what to all you non believers out there I walked away with 2.246 ozt of gold. I then took it to the gold buying place up the street and got $2,100.00 dollars for this little bar of gold. All the supplies and acid cost me less then $40.00 dollars to buy. Everything else I was able to get from my kitchen and toss after I was done. So yes, there is a ton of money out there waiting to be plucked from the trash, ground, broken things, it's everywhere you look. You just need to learn how to find it.

Mike the Scrapper A messy 98% sulfuric acid process that takes a lot of pins to yield little, and in that process you get rid of copper in AR as opposed to ram fingers. You should do AR twice for sure since your AR wont be orange the first time. Say 3 pounds of pins to 1.6 grams of gold. IDE pins would be more like 6 pounds. On ram fingers I yielded 20g of gold per 8.6 pounds of fingers. If someone has pins then do it, but if someone is seeking pins while ram, boards are available, then go with the ram boards. I still use like 5 ml 98% sulfuric at the end of AR to precipitate lead, just in case a little solder got on the fingers. I have boards with dram, and some where we pull the dram , in which you might get a little solder. If you are intending to pull the dram for processing, then it's best to cut the fingers first. Also use the green snips rather than the yellow or red. Unless you are left handed, the green wiss ones let you better see the line your cutting on to avoid resistor packs and solder from low profile modules.

Your video is awesome! Keep doing it. For all the people that say it costs way to much to do this your wrong! 1 gal of acid at Home Depot is like 8.00 dollars and distilled water, really, .89 cents at CVS! Your not doing the work, the acid is. So in less then 48 hours this guy made 60.00 dollars doing nothing! So if you bought 1000 ounces of gold plated pins from ebay for less then 50.00 dollars and did this and walked away with a little more then an ounce of gold you would be mad because its too much work for you. That ounce is now worth 1,300.00+ dollars in less then 48 hrs. That's more then most of you make in a month working the line at McDonalds, right! So stop trashing this guy, at least he's not sitting on his ass living off the government! Keep making the videos!

Psychology 101: Telling people not to do something is akin to telling them to do it. That's why the DARE program actually increases drug use in communities that implement it. Instead, it is better to tell people what the dangers are of messing up. Like, "This acid could explode if added incorrectly" etc...

fangsea Lol, you don't understand the concept. With over 100 RAM Sticks at 40 dollars, you are BOUND to find someone to buy it if you try. And that could simply be listing it online and playing a waiting game. But why go out of your way to scrap 40 dollars worth of gold when ONE ram stick can pay for all of the ones you destroyed just for gold?
@fangsea
@fangsea 11 жыл бұрын
Antonio Banderas I have well over 400 sticks of ram. I would have to test each stick of ram before I sold it along with the rest of my time being wasted putting each stick up for sale. If they are sold I then would have to mail it. Unless you are poor or have no job. It is a waste of time. I make 40 an hour so WTF do I care.

All the smart ass comments are clearly people that don't see the big picture. My husband has been scrapping for 7 years and saving all his ram boards and processor boards. He and a friend just processed the fingers and processors. After cutting the fingers off the Rams they still sold the boards for $600 . And they got almost a ounce of gold from the stuff they processed. This was they're first time so sure they lost some gold. Yes it's 7 years of collecting but the actual time invested in just this, my husband's estimated approx. 20 hours and he now has around 800 dollars worth of gold. All I know it's 800 for 20 hours actual labor is a fantastic use of time in my books

$40 for all that work? pfft Even if you save it for 20 years that $40 will probably only be about $60-$80 then you gotta think about inflation and how much $80 is actually worth then. You are better off scrapping copper
@seanweir7311
@seanweir7311 11 жыл бұрын
Hey money is based of of gold so $40 of gold will be worth what ever inflation increases to. Say inflation is 100% so what you can buy today for $40 cost tommorrow $4000. Since it is based on gold backing the same amount of gold would cost $4000. Thats why people buy precious metals they are inflation proof.
@Crittek
@Crittek 11 жыл бұрын
sean weir Money is no longer based on gold. A countries currency is backed by notions of illusion. Gold prices can skyrocket or plummet and would not reflect a currencies worth like it used to. The best investment you can make is in stocks as long as you are responsible. 40 ram sticks are very hard to come by that are absolutely free. That's why you had all these cash for gold type of things or something like Best Buy where they take your old computer components. As a scrapper, gold is the hardest metal to extract and get your hands on. Scrapping cars is even easier and more rewarding than this.

@bassl0va
@bassl0va 10 жыл бұрын
Adam Tolley It really makes no sense for the environment either. With the amount of stuff that is thrown out and destroyed, why saving 2 grams worth the time or effort? It's not worth it for the money either after buying all the chemicals for it. Bothering to get anything off the boards in a computer isn't worth it. The only decent amounts of metal are the heatsinks, the HDD and the case. I know someone who scraps things, he doesn't bother with computers...

Pretty nice process. I would add one caution from a guy who's worked in a lab through college... there's a little saying... "do as you otter, add acid to water...' What happens the other way around is that adding water to the acid assuming it's strong enough will create a little steam bubble and spit the water, and usually acid back from the surface of the acid. So, that means you'll have acid and water splattered all over the place. If you add acid to water, the water volume is significantly greater and when the acid is introduced, it can not generate enough heat to make steam, and you don't get the splatter. If your gold scrapping process works well, and you have your amounts balanced out well, your acid bath may not be super strong, but if you only have a little bit of gold, and therefore an excess of acid, you could have problems. Sulphuric (battery acid) is probably the worst, but nitric is a close second. Two very nasty acids to work with. Nitric is extra special because it is also a powerful oxidizer as well. Also expect to see your metal strainer dissolve pretty quick too. Now I have a plan on what to do with all my old computers, hard drives and random computer boards I have floating around! Thanks!

john doe You can store it however you like. It's not going to change form at all. It can be stored in any form, metallic, salt, oxide, whatever, but if you plan on selling it, which I think is the goal, probably the metal form would be best, assuming it's out of sight so no dirt bag steals it.

Mike, Great video. I have some critiques if you don't mind. First, baking soda is not a good waste disposal method. You will be dumping heavy metals (Cu) into the water and putting Cu compounds into the dump. Plating out the Cu with Zn, Fe, or Al is a much cleaner method. You also have the added benefit of being able to collect the Cu to melt and sell. Also, there will always be HCL in the solution. Excess HCL does not hurt precipitation. HNO3 is what needs to be eliminated. This can be done with urea or the evaporation technique. Lastly if you use a filter to dry your gold you will lose some in the filter itself. If you have quality glassware you can simply evaporate the gold in the beaker and get 100% gold yield. Again very nice video!

I have to admit i thought it was a lot of work for small reward. Then at the end your explanation made it clear. THINK FOR THE LONG TERM. do this for a couple of years and wait for the price to go up......CHA CHING. Thanks, good vid.

Probably the most informative video I have seen on his subject, Still seems like a lot to do for a little gold. At the end of the video the gold still has to go into a smelter that also requires a lot of special handling and in itself can also be quite dangerous.

Hey Mike I didnt go thru your comments to see if anyone mentioned this too you yet but from my understanding of the process is that the mixture you are using can be used again, that green color in the mix is copper and to remove it from the acid you created you simply put stainless steel in it like a butter knife and within 24 hours most of the copper would leech out and attach itself to the knife, then you simply remove the knife and wash it and you will have powdered copper you can keep and add to the collection for extra money and as an added bonus you dont need to spend as much money on the Hydrogen Peroxide and Muriatic Acid because you are recycling the acid as well!! if you knew this already then sorry I wasted your time but I hope I put a little extra money in your pocket! you rule man! keep up the good work because I have learned alot from you good sir

Your videos are very interesting, thanks for sharing them. Could you please make a video where you'd describe the chemistry in the whole process and the purpose of all the steps (for example, I wonder what exactly you are doing with the fingers at first, i. e. what exactly causes the gold plating to fall off the fingers)? And also another question - how do you dispose of the byproduct chemicals (what's left when you're done with the gold recovery)? Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply. So I will have to acid wash all gold colored parts? I just turned in 200lbs of telecom style boards for scrap. I am now going to get more detailed and try to extract the metals. I would like to know if there is a meter that would identify the metals?

Nice video, good information about the ram boards. I will be looking for the video about the ram boards without the gold fingers. I am curious to learn how much gold will be in the entire ram board. Some experts say that you can not 2/3's of the gold in a ram chips. Keep up the good work, Hollywood may call you. It is possible.
