@NLPexperts8 жыл бұрын
China has been raising export prices for all goods since late 2000's with massive currency manipulation since 2010. Environmental regulations are not particularly real in china, yes they exist, but just another hurdle to jump through and generally just a small fee, if any. . I recently had a 2000 kilowatt incinerator installed in guangzhou and didn't even require a permit. China wants to appear environmentally conscious but it wants more than anything to preserve manufacturing jobs. Manufacturing = terrible for the environment, china chooses manufacturing over protecting the environment 10 times out of 10.

Same here bro... I would love to have some old ceramic CPU or even Pentium Pro. The oldest CPU i have is Pentium II
@1x4x98 жыл бұрын
Pentium Classic 75MHz-166MHz P54C chips are the easiest way to ceramic packaging. There are 200MHz non-MMX variants that use the later PMMX organic PGA packaging that was also migrated to the Celerons with 128KB L2 cache based on Deschutes (forget the codename and too lazy to google it). You can find rare all ceramic Pentium w/MMX 166MHz and 200MHz variants, but 166MHz are the most common of the two. You could go for the Cyrix 6x86/AMD K6-x, Motorola 680x0, or DEC Alpha chips if you want to rescue more eccentric parts from scrappers. Maybe the early PPC 601/603 are also on ceramic, but use a flip-chip design so no gold heatspreaders. If you're going to go Pentium Pro, go for the 200MHz 512KB or 1MB L2 variants. A Pentium II Overdrive 333MHz is also an option to max out the Socket 8 platform, but are expensive at $200-400USD per CPU. The 1MB L2 models are easy to spot because of their black packaging material. Happy Hunting!

I don`t know where in Bulgaria I can find electronic waste, and I just can`t afford to spend money for old CPUs. I saw some awesome old tech in FreeGeek in Vancouver from when LTT were there, but I can`t go there :( Someday if I go to Vancouver on holiday I will check FreeGeek for some awesome stuff.

How do you dispose of or neutralize the chemicals? Are all the metals and chemicals inert upon disposal or maybe you use a service to dispose or have a massive bunker of plastic barrels containing crazy shit?
@sreetips7 жыл бұрын
I put gold refining waste into my stock pot. There, trace amounts of precious metals "cement" out as a fine black powder on to pieces of copper (please see my stock pot videos) as the copper goes into solution. Then, the resulting acidic copper solution is transferred to my waste treatment bucket that's full of iron. Here, the copper "cements" out as harmless metallic copper powder and the iron goes into solution. The copper powder is disposed of. The acidic iron solution is siphoned off into a third bucket where it is treated with sodium hydroxide. The iron precipitates out as a metal hydroxide. These hydroxides are filtered out and dried, then disposed of. The caustic solution (filtrate) is then neutralized to pH7 with swimming pool pH down, and disposed. Nothing toxic is ever poured down the drain or in the dirt.

Awesome. I worked for a pharma research and development company and set up a pilot plant with them. I was new to the field and couldn't believe what we were dumping without treatment. I can say that the pipes leading to the main sewer line must have been very clean. I had a basic idea of what you were doing with it from your video, but a lot of that stuff is beyond my realm of knowledge so I was curious if you just kept the buckets or not. Thanks. Apparently a lot of people are interested in this stuff as you have a ton of views and comments from this one video.

I always wondered how on earth I could extract the gold from these boards. We use immersion gold (on the pad surfaces) and hard gold (on the gold finger tabs used for insterting into things like old Nintendo games for those who don't know). Does this matter which gold it is? Should I only save hard gold boards?

I know of a salvage yard that sends circuit boards through a shredder and heat it up in a gas furnace where all of board is consumed. They use different anodes in a process like the reverse of electroplating. I guess that it's not so time consuming, but likely has a similar amount of toxic products.

If you used aqua regia to ionize the metals, then use electrolysis to attract the different metals to different electrodes. Each metal ion will plate a certain electrode. then reverse the polarity to make it precipitate out in distilled water. This most likely wouldn't work because the electrodes would become part of the reaction unless they were non reactive material. I have a degree in chemistry but have not worked in it for 50 years. You have stirred my interest back. At one time, I had a lab in my garage with a vent-a-hood and the whole 9 yards. I am 76 years old and need to get my chemistry books out and refresh my memory.
@sreetips6 жыл бұрын
Jack, my chemistry knowledge is very limited. But I am very familiar with the reactivity series of metals from the periodic table. Knowledge of this series is an absolute must for anyone who is interested in refining precious metals. It can be magic, or a curse, if the refiner does not know what's going on inside his reaction vessel! I rely heavily on my common sense approach and my 8 years of refining experience to be able to pull the metals from these various types of scrap. And I hope others can gain some insight into the mysterious world of refining precious metals by viewing my videos. Thank you!

I couldn't tell you the difference between a valance electron and a photon or a neutron. I just never studied it. Besides, to refine gold and silver you don't need much knowledge of chemistry, maybe become very familiar with the "reactivity series of metals" it is used in nearly ever phase of refining all the way down to waste treatment.

Pentium Pros are actually kind of rare and valuable :( A shame you wrecked them.
@DigBipper1887 жыл бұрын
True, they're old and VERY outdated. but they're highly sought after by retro computer enthusiasts and are very valuable due to their scarcity. Here in Britain they set you back £50 (somewhere round $60) per chip. If you have a mainboard and 32MB of RAM with it then the entire thing as a bundle would be worth 2-3x that.
@tergav83127 жыл бұрын
Most of the things these goldbug computer scrapper retards scrap are worth 10-100x on eBay than the gold that is inside them. A computer from the 70s-90s may have $0.25 of gold in them but are worth $50-200. As a retro-computer enthusiast this really pisses me off.
