Unfortunately this is one game that is going to alienate the tactical purists who concentrate mainly on the battles. Lots of new bells and whistles for fine tuning a nation's government..... that make this game closer to other titles like Suzerain or Rebel Inc, as opposed to a "Total War" game. Does not help that space exploration and travel seem to be the theme that's all the rage these days alongside Steampunk ......

I think that Total War: Pharaoh is a good game. Too expensive for its value, but definitely a good game.

@@Exorimeansdeath I suppose, but it must've been hard for the New Kingdom dynasts: imagine you're Akhnaten (and his dad) and you repeatedly keep getting letters from far east saying things like "Ohai u haz so very bling, I iz buildin big temple can haz gold plz kthxbai". No wonder he decided to found Atenism. It must've been an attempt at personal stress relief.

@@Exorimeansdeath: I mean functionally stone from a practical viewpoint has its uses. The pyramids were built mainly from stone not gold. Likewise the Grand Canal systems of China and France, which were constructed many, many centuries afterward. Plus, my SO (she is a former blacksmith) states that gold has to be alloyed with another metal to give it durability. Problem is, in in ancient Egypt gold was seen to be the very stuff gods were made of ... despite the fact that silver IRL was far more prized than gold simply because of scarcity ...

I'll be honest, I was hesitant on grabbing this game, been playing since the latter days of Medieval 2 into Three Kingdoms, avoided all Warhammer and Troy....really did not like Troy. But what they have implemented in Troy I think is the right play for future Total War games, the ability to manage resources should be more important that taking the enemy capital....I understand on the larger scale maps money is more important... but hopefully they need to make resources such as iron or food just as important as money. I do hope they expand on the building selection type like what they have done in Medieval 2 with a event that gives you a free building here in and there

I noticed a bug in my campaign, where interacting with an outpost/landmark when you are already standing next to it causes you to lose all your movement points. Maybe it has to refunding 50% of 0 movement nets you 0. Just look out for it.

This is a known bug and something hopefully the first patch will fix

The nubian longbow men had like 11 more ranged damage compared to the mercenary ones i think.

Ah, the chain war declaration ... isn't as bad. Only two factions declared, and Miam is having second thoughts. That said, Miam was the aggressor in the last Tausret showcase and I would advise caution in leaving a garrison behind.

Nice cross fire set up around min 22. It's good to see tactics used, rather than just character stat sticks being thrown at each other in WH3

Would you say Troy or Pharaoh is the better game? They seem incredibly similar. Is the only real difference the theme and current cost?

Pharaoh is much deeper than Troy in terms of mechanics that it is not even close (assuming we are just comparing base game right now). Ancient Legacies, court systems, outposts, battles with stances and weather effects, fire arrows that can target ground and burn cities, no pocket ladders and a civil war mechanic... the only part of Troy that I think is better is the fantasy element from the mythos edition if you are into mythological creatures

The game flops so hard to compare Thrones of Britannia was released on a Thursday and had 22K players at the release to compare Pharaoh has a peak of 5.6K players (and many have also returned the game from what you hear) I won't buy the game either unless they might announce Greece Mesopotamia but then I would still wait for the rewiews that's how disappointed I am
