Blockchains can only bring security and transparency to assets that can be represented in a pure digital form. Blockchains aren't needed and don't serve any benefit for tracking real-world goods since the custody and security of those items is still centralized (and confiscatable). Making gold more divisible would be more efficiently accomplished by a centralized database managed by the custodian. But of course that's been tried and eventually shut down a few times already by governments.
@davewantsmoore5 жыл бұрын
Rick is wrong about the anonymity of (most) cryptocurrencies. The major cryptocurrencies are not, and were not designed to be anonymous. They are pseudonymous. This is critically different to anonymous. You can transact privately using the blockchain... but given a certain amount of effort, your blockchain addresses COULD be associated with your real identity, and your transactions identified and traced. I think Rick is also partially misguided about "multiple cryptocurrencies". There will certainly be lots of different systems and tokens to serve different needs or use cases.... however, they will be on one public ledger. There is only one internet.... there isn't an internet for every type of use case. The blockchain will work the same. One of the main advantages is there is just ONE public, ubiquitous, ledger (network) which everything can interoperate with. People will use this ledger for infinite numbers of use-cases.

Quantitative easing, as far as I know, is shown in the government debt. The government debt (as a fiat, debt-based currency) is equivalent to the number of currency credits added to the government financial system. We should all keep in mind that his self interest lies with people losing confidence in the dollar so that they flee to gold. I would also like to point out that arithmetic is accounting but accounting does not reflect the entire national economy,. Rather it keeps tracks of money of various assets and liabilities we have assigned to each other from the perspective of a firm or the government none of which represent the entire national economy,. What I am trying to say is that one of the reasons why the world has shown confidence in the long term prospects for the US economy is because we have NOT had a baby bust like most of the other OECD countries and given continued strength of immigration into the US we will have sufficient number of working age people to meet the liabilities created by the retirement of the baby boomers. That is NOT captured by the US federal budget deficit. - that’s accounting,, that’s “arithmetic”. But the real economy is composed of people and time which equals work. That’s macroeconomics. It’s still up to us to clean up our “books” aka US federal budget. But that problem is not a reflection of the underlying strength of the US economy which is built on people with the energy and freedom to pursue their dreams. So when he criticizes quantitative easing he’s complaining about liquidity in support of getting people back to work. Along with an expansionary fiscal policy this helped the US economy recover from the “Great Recession”. People like this presenter criticized such steps and warned us of catastrophic inflation and the implosion of US currency. But expansionary policies when there are idle resources in the economy; people, factories, etc., do NOT cause inflation, and in fact did not. People like this presenter have been repeatedly proven wrong. As the economy showed recovery and unemployment rates dropped, such “loose” monetary policies ended and Federal Reserve actually started to raise interest rates. Compare this to policies followed by the EU after the Great Recession that have proven disastrous with unemployment rates above 20% in Italy, Spain, and Greece! This represent the loss of work that could have produced tremendous wealth by those idled people. That’s the REAL economy. What’s the point of balancing the national government budget when that result in the real loss of national wealth and untold misery to millions of citizens? I suppose people like the presenter would be happy as panicked public flee their currency and seek shelter with gold. Try eating gold. Intrinsic value? The true intrinsic value is wealth created by people working to produce things and services that the rest of us want.

Since SS benefits can be made sustainable (or much more nearly so) by "scrapping the cap" (imposing same SS levy on all earned-through-personal-services income), this is much more likely than defaulting on benefits. Scrapping the cap will be painless for most voters, while defaulting on benefits will be violently opposed by the (high-turnout) elderly and worrisome (there go their future benefits, too) and secondarily painful to younger voters, most of whom are closely associated with one or more of the elderly. Other forms of upper-end taxation are also possible and one or more of these would also be more popular than defaulting on SS benefits. The more likely answer to "Who gets stiffed?" is - Every obligee holding debt that can be inflated away. (Partial SS default by deleting COLA from benefits is also a possibility.)

It sounds nice, unfortunately blockchains are not able to track real-world goods such as precious metals.
