While I was in PTSD inpatient treatment for women veterans Gold Star Moms came in periodically and fed us amazing home-cooked meals and brought gifts of personal necessities that many needed but could not afford. Every inpatient unit in my VA hospital was sponsored by a Gold Star Mom group to do the same. I am not sure if people realize what this amazing group does to serve disabled veterans. Support them!

They spoke at the Republican convention in July. The families were informed of the law, the rules and the prohibitions when they set up the event. The families and Trump were again informed of the law, the regulations and the prohibitions 3 days before the event. When they appeared to be violating the rules, an Arlington official stepped in. She was verbally and physically assaulted and the Military police were called but out of deference to others, they chose to not make a bigger disruption. Other Gold Star families are upset because walking literally on their graves and using their headstones as props in a campaign photo op rips at the grief. and it's against the law.

As the 6th generation of my family to serve in the US Military, let's be crystal clear here....Trump GAVE THE DATE for troops to be out of Afghanistan..... something the military would NEVER ANNOUNCE. It opens you up to attacks, just like this one. The Trump administration also did not have an exit plan, and did not meet with the Biden transition team to brief them on the lack of planning. Biden had two choices, surge in forces to protect the 2500, essentially invading, or try to mitigate the damage. In public speeches in June 2021 and July 2021, Trump bragged about sandbagging Biden and leaving him no wiggle room and took credit for the pullout.
