Rey Perez fought a much bigger and stronger guy this time. That is why he fought differently. Not because he was paid off. I'm Filipino so i have no bias towards Duarte. These fights were both a test for Duno and Duarte. Not for Perez.

Perez did not sold this fight; he threw away this fight as he was outboxed by Duarte. Perez was trying to box by distance with long jabs and overhand rights. But, Duarte made adjustments in closing the gap. Duarte became aggressive in hitting Perez’ body, thus causing Perez to lower his arms in defense of his torso. Perez resorted to throwing jabs with the left hand and use his right arm to defend his body. Essentially, Duarte’s body work paralyzed Perez’ arms from at least counter punching! There is an obvious disparity in their punching powers: Duarte > Perez. Perez should have increased his jabs and hard right punching volumes, but it is noticeable that he felt Duarte’s body shots from the beginning. Perez should have also considered lateral movements to evade from Duarte’s attacks on his body. Otherwise, good coaching for Joel Diaz, and good win for Duarte.
