Hi. You will have so much fun with your grandchild, is it your first? Just think of the early life memories you will be able to give it on your boat. Pure gold! I do not know why we are drawn to cemeteries. My wife and I make a point of visiting cemeteries where ever we travel and when ever we can. It is sometimes an emotional thing to experience. We enjoy your videos here in AU. Keep them coming please!

That’s great news. I know you mentioned you were thinking about a bigger boat when we exchanged emails and just today at the start of this video I thought what a shame because Constanta is looking really good! I loved this video especially the photography at the start, it’s so clear and the scenery is beautiful. That area is amazing, we hired our first narrowboat at Sowerby Bridge and I did my lock training in Tuel lock, my nerves were in shreds. Then when we moored up I fell overboard! What a day? I’ve been watching Robbie on BBC4, well the first four episodes on iplayer all at once with a bottle of sparkly to celebrate. I think he did a great job and I was watching to see if your boat made it into the programme but I didn’t spot it! Maybe I should have held back on the wine! I’m not sure where the last leg of the journey is though. It was great that they used his music and I did shout pub of the week each time he stopped fir a beer. Again that may have been the wine. I can’t wait for the next video on the Rochdale canal and to see what adventures you get up to. Good luck with the flat hunting. A friend of ours has an apartment in Huddersfield in a conversion overlooking the narrow canal. I’m not sure if you have considered that area or want to be somewhere smaller. Either way it’s all very exciting. Thanks as always for sharing your journey.

Hi Sylvia. Thank you again for your message. I don't think we made the final cut on Robbies videos. Aren't they wonderful? He has done so well and works so hard, and deserves this series. We have just lost our buyer for our cottage so we will start looking for flats again once we have another buyer. The house buying/selling system is so rubbish. Ideally we would look for a smaller town with good rail links, but we are keeping an open mind. All suggestions welcome.

Floating Our Boat I’m really sorry to hear about your house sale you must be so upset. We sold our London flat this year and thought it would be a piece of cake but it was a nightmare. The solicitor was incompetent and we were eventually refunded a large portion of the legal fees. There’s something seriously wrong with our house selling and Conveyancing system! It’s like an endurance test not a service. Stay positive, your cottage is beautiful and you will soon have another buyer.

I like your boat, more than anything it is a home and you can see that. I started at the beginning of your vlogs and now nearly two weeks later I am at episode 72. There have been so many times when I have thought "wow, that's exactly what I would say" ....sometimes that has been quite scary...lol. In these last few episodes you have been in my home country. I am a Yorkshire lass, grew up in Huddersfield. What I will tell you is that if you go through Skipton (or maybe you already have) it hasbeen Britain's voted best market....not sure when market day is. And did you notice the Emily Moor mast when you were on the Huddersfield canal...and how about Castle Hill , castle built for Queens Vic's jubilee I believe. Congratulations on your marriage. Keep happy and at the moment I can also say keep safe even though I know Rich got that nasty number 19 dreaded lurgy. Love and hugs.

Another great vlog Rich and Fran. Would it be worth trying to buy a flat near a main line railway station or a town so you can rent it to professional people who commute to work, you could then possibly rent it long term, but I totally agree with you about keeping your boat and doing a few upgrades instead of buying another boat, and at the end of the day whatever boat you have it'll still take you to the places you want to go to. You only get one chance in life so go for it but manage it in the best way you can to suit your budget, and then enjoy it. Too many of us, me included, are scared to make that jump but we'll have worse regrets when we can't make that jump.

We're always looking at other boats..we quite fancy a traditional with boatmans cabin, and a big shiny engine that sounds lush..the only trouble is they cost so much..we have a nice 58 ft semi trad. Like you say know her inside and out and feel very happy with the spec..except we're thinking about changing our Pullman dinette to L shaped one, as we think will give a more open feel to the boat. We also have a holiday lodge in Pembrokeshire that we have been letting through Sykes cottages, only since August this year..so far we've been pleased with the interest in it..its gone quiet now though..which means we get to use it with our grandkids..saves buying a widebeam to fit them all on. Hubby still works though and we have a home mooring in a marina..so cheating a little. X

If you're thinking of letting out your new property maybe you should look into the Serviced Accommodation option via AirBnB etc. More money and more secure as NO semi-permanent tenants to worry about. I think generally Serviced Accommodation is 'anti-social' and a real problem generating a lot of Homelessness, but as it's also going to be your 'own home' it wouldn't fall into the same category as those Landlords who are Evicting tenants from their Buy-To-Lets so that they can cash-in on the Serviced accommodation trend - (Just a thought :-)

Hi David, so sorry to hear about your mum. There is generally a peace on the canals and in the life we lead which is unique. We always used to feel it when we were going back and forth to the cottage, then breathed a sigh of relief when sat on our little boat. I think that living with limited space really helps you concentrate on small things and appreciate your surroundings, and also helps you concentrate on reflecting and relaxing. We love hearing from our regular viewers and sharing our lives with you. Change is not always good, but sometimes cant be avoided so I have found the best thing is to turn it round to work for you if you can. Wishing you a happy Christmas ans 2020 Fran x

I don't often comment - largely because previous commentators have already expressed my thoughts - so I click on their 'Likes' instead, However, today, you have given me something to contribute. Firstly, my congratulations to you on your recent nuptials - secondly, your comment re indoor markets and your memories of old. I too have many such memories, my home town having an identical 'Victorian style' Market Hall with my Grandfather opening a stall in 1903. I followed my dad into the business and 'worked it' for over 46/47 years, but am now retired. Wonderful days, despite icy winters, with warm camaraderie from fellow stallholders to compensate. Whatever the future - I wish you the very best with many happy years together.

I've rewatched a lot of your vlogs going back to the beginning. I don't think you complain enough about the litter and plastic that is on, in and along the canals. You are not the only ones who complain - Minimal List, David Cruising the cut also make a point of the litter. Keep doing it. Secondly, way back Rich pointed out cylindrical tank barriers. I have never seen or heard about these. I write historical novels about how people lived through WWII and never came across these. I have seen the pill boxes along the canals, and on my own walks in the UK but never these barriers. Interesting. Absolutely love your vlogs. Jane- Philadelphia

@@FloatingOurBoat The frothy beer is compensated by it being at least a quid cheaper than "daaarn saaarf." I lived in Wakefield for a while. Loved it! Barnsley bitter was a great quaffing ale. Allegedly. ;o)

Thank you Andrew. It's a bizarre condition. I can even get it in the middle of summer. The gloves seem to be really good though.

I suffer from Reynaud's as well - mostly in the fingers of my right hand. I have yet to find gloves - or mittens - that really keep my fingers warm. I use chemical hand warmers especially when I'm indoors. I'm looking at thin glove liners that use a battery to heat the whole hand including the fingers. You can get thick ski gloves that do that - but that's not going to help me when I"m inside or when I need to actually DO things with my hands.
@FloatingOurBoat
@FloatingOurBoat 4 жыл бұрын
That sounds much worse that mine Justine, although I do still get it in the summer and only occasionally indoors. I'm going to try ginger tea which is supposed to improve circulation.

Me and my other 'alf visit graves of famous people as well, our last visit was to the grave of Mary Millington one time glamour star in most of the saucy mags of the 70's. Well that hill looked like you should have had a loaf of hovis under yer arm, very steep. And don't forget the wheels on the bus go round and round all day long. Sell the boat ?, but you can't you three are a trio who we all love to see. Until the next time see ya....

May I just say good luck with your new plans, they sound very exciting. Sometimes it’s better with “the devil you know” rather than “the devil you don’t know”. Yorkshire is a stunning County in many areas. If you are going to Skipton, I would recommend getting on the train to Settle and enjoy a trip along the famous Settle and Carlisle Railway. I am certain you two would love it. Fran, I know you have spent a lot of money on those gloves. However, gloves, in general, are very inefficient in respect of their thermal qualities. Mittens however are very, very efficient. I can strongly recommend you trying a pair of mittens. Somewhere like GoOutdoors will have them as they are very popular with the outdoor fraternity. You can pick them up quite cheaply. Your hands will be much warmer in them I can guarantee. There is a lot of history in Churches and their grounds. I am not a religious person but I do enjoy visiting churches for historical reasons. Last year I paid my respects to Donald Campbell who is buried in Coniston. I remember seeing Donald crash in Bluebird in 1967 on the news in black and white of course! I watched Bluebird run for the first time since the tragedy this year;now she is beautifully restored. Anyway, all the best and continue living a great life. Good luck to you both.

Thanks for the suggestion about Settle, we will try to do that. I white agree about mittens and they are great for out walking but I wouldn't be able to manage the boats and locks safely with them. The new gloves seem to be working really well so far.
