In Korea, they sell similar snacks as "Jolly Pong" and they're not cereal (although you can eat it like so). They're sold as dry snacks. The Jolly pong lattes were quite popular few summers ago.

I remember Sugar Crisp from the 1950s but I had it associated with Mighty Mouse, probably because the commercials appeared on that show. However, I can't find any pics with Mighty Mouse on the box -- so I guess I must not have been very impressed by the bears.

I always preffered this over smacks. Both make your pee smell like coffee. I remember getting a stuffed sugar bear on the top of the box once. Coolest prize ever!

I always preferred Super Golden Crisp over Honey Smacks. It was most likely because of that cool Sugar Bear. I totally agree about how cool and laid back he is. He was so cool in those commercials! I don't think there was a cooler cereal mascot than Sugar Bear. I guess they did the marketing for that cereal correctly, because it got kids like me to eat that over Honey Smacks, even though I remember them basically tasting the same.

You failed to mention Golden Crisp's "fragrant urine phenomenon". Also, I hope you will one day be able to review General Mill's "Mr. Wonderful's Surprise" cereal, from ca. 1973. I consider that the holy grail of cereals...might have been a regional test-market item. It was "cream filled," although if I remember correctly, "sweetened-lard-filled" might be a more accurate description.

I remember that it was somewhat controversial at the time -- some people felt that it crossed the line in the sweetness department. Also, there were two flavors -- vanilla and chocolate.

It's crazy, there are actually lots of cereals now with even more sugar than GC, like Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory (19g per serving!) and even healthy sounding ones like Cheerios+Protein (17g per serving).
