I went to DCA when I graduated Marine Boot Camp on March 1, 2001 with my family and was able to watch the awesome show. I miss it so much it always brings back great memories for me. It gave me great pride being from California and serving my country. Its been so long since its closing and so sad. A lot has changed from when I was still a young man and now I have a family of my own. I wish could go back to that place in time when things made a little more sense.
@Kurt77777 Жыл бұрын
Amen brother. I wish the world would still be as it was 22 years ago when you became a Marine. America was a great country and such a better place to live back then. Thank you for your service. The Marines are the best! You were at DCA less than one month after it opened. Golden Dreams was my favorite attraction in California Adventure. Despite seeing the show numerous times, I never got tired of it. The best part is the song at the end.

Dated though it may be, I would love to see it revived, with more current events added to it. Sadly, though---I fear that could never happen, considering all the negativity and evil that has filled the headlines, as of late. Under those circumstances, it's better if this presentation remains as a tribute to a kinder, gentler time. If only it could be made into a DVD, though.

I'm so glad you posted this. I was there the first day DCA opened. I was a cast member at the time and when I left The Disneyland Resort it was a while before I was able to return as a guest. Golden Dreams was one of my favorite attractions. Every chance I could I would go and see it. I was bummed when I found out they turned it into The Little Mermaid attraction and never released Golden Dreams as a Video for purchase. So when I saw that you posted this I has to add it to my favorites. Again, thanks for posting it.

Having helped open the Park as a Cast Member, and also having been on the Mission Tortilla Show Kitchen stage, this movie had surprisingly become one of my favorite things about the park in its early days. At the time, I and a fair number of Cast Members derided it for being pure glurge and just a bit too much California-cheerleading. Mainly, it's because while we liked the park for the things it offered, we scoffed at the whole "let's have an entire theme park about California...IN California!" you know, as if all of us were completely unaware of what California was/had/offered/did/represented/presented/etc. We knew it wasn't for _us_ but the fact remained that the vast bulk of Disney's patronage at the time were people from California, so it didn't exactly make a lot of sense. Why go have made-from-scratch clam chowder (which, yes, I *do* still have the recipe for) from the Pacific Warf Cafe, when you could just go to Monterey Bay or San Francisco's Marina district to have? (they were literally less than a day's drive from LA) Why go to a theme park to try Boudin Sourdough when, again, you could just go to San Fran to have it? (less than a day's drive, less than $100 and about an hour at best flight) However...it grew on us, as did a lot of the park at its inception. While some of us were sad to see the original concept go away (and ALL of us were sad to see the Monorail-turned-Golden-Gate-Bridge along with those beautiful mosaics to make a "living postcard" go away, what the ever livin' _hell_ Disney????), in the end it's for the best for the park as a whole that it's being turned into essentially "Hollywood Studio Themepark West Coast, with a splash of Disney History." I just wish Disney would release the *original* version of this film....What people don't realize is that the scene with the Father and Son working on the rail line setting explosives? The original version of this movie did not slow down and fade out to the scene of the steam locomotive's smokestack....It showed the explosive going off and rapidly covering the screen with smoke. You don't actually see them die, but you can _easily_ tell that's what happened. At the time I was shocked and pleasantly surprised that Disney would finally take off the whole shiny "everything is sunshine" veneer and show something real. But, sadly, it was changed. I do understand why, who the hell goes to an amusement park to get depressed? But still, it was a refreshing change (in my eyes) for Disney.

I was a passholder at the time the park opened. It easily became my favorite place to go to get a break from the business of Disneyland. I also watched this movie every time it showed and I do remember the original version with the explosives. I was wondering why this version seemed different. I was working back at route 66 the summer Mdiway Mania opened and the back office of the pier had the panorama of the new look for the park. I remembered being so sad about the changes to come, but I never imagined the park would look as it does today. Interesting to see the changes, so sad to see my favorite things go. I just hope they don't get ride of Grizzley and Redwood Trails. My little peace of heaven in an ever changing amusement park. Thanks for the share, man. Btw, miss those tortillas!!

I remember coming here maybe a year or two after it opened (I was 7-8), back when I lived in California and this attraction, along with the Mission Tortilla and the clam chowder were all the most memorable things about that place, I never got to go back to it until around 2011 and all of it was gone by then but I kept wondering if I had imagined all of it.

They've gotten rid of almost everything in California Adventure that has to do with California. The only things left standing that are California based are Grizzly River Run, The Redwood Trail and the Grand Californian Hotel. I predict in ten years those will be gone too and they'll have changed the name of the park.
@stanfordite6 жыл бұрын
RayRayofCali I actually predict in ten years the California theme will be back with a vengeance and enforced in DCA. I'm also predicting that Disney won't be as big as it is now and will have lost the rights to Marvel and Lucasfilm resulting in all Marvel attractions and Galaxy's Edge being closed and torn down.

I lived only 10 min away from Disneyland when DCA opened. I went to DCA about 3 months after it opened and thought it was the worst amusement park. I only stayed 2 hours cause the park was just bad. I nicknamed the old DCA "waste of space". I only saw this movie one time, the first time I went to DCA. I forgot how good it was till I saw this video. Thanks for the only good memory of the early DCA. I like DCA much better now since they have revamped it and visit that park more now.

Recently been trying to unearth anything on the ICON gay fashion designer of MGM fame ADRIAN. There is virtually nothing of him. No biography, authorized or not. a Couple books showcasing his fashions from films, but lean on the man himself. Married for studio reasons to cover his lifestyle, and had a son named Robin. I have seen only 2 images of him in photos on ebay. I came across a brief blurb on IMDb about this film which he briefly appears! It appears to be THE ONLY moment of the man on film! Thank YOU!

Thank you for posting this Martin! This was a favorite for us and our girls. It's too bad that Walt's original vision of having a place for both parents and kids is being replaced by decisions solely based on the almighty dollar. (Although Walt was definitely into the almighty dollar himself.) I can understand why they're moving toward Comic Book Movies and Star Wars and all-those make the bucks and stock price is king. But I sure miss the days when attractions were more of a blend of rides and theatrical shows like this one. The new Avengers Campus "action shows" seem like a bad import from Universal Studios, (Although the flying Spider Man is cool.) But that's progress I guess. Sigh.
