I’m not surprised about the Jesse Plemons nomination. He won the best actor prize at the Cannes Film Festival for that performance in Kinds of Kindness. Usually those prizes awarded at that film festival matter. It helped movies like Anora and Emilia Perez get a platform for awards season since Anora is the current Palme d’Or winner and Emilia Perez won the Jury Prize and best actress for Karla, Zoe and Selena.

I watched Maria twice back to back yesterday and again for the third time this morning. Jolie's performance was absolutely extraordinary! I dare to say that this film showcases her greatest work to date! No other actress in contention for an Academy Award nomination in the lead actress category comes close to the brilliance of Jolie's flawless performance! 💯🎭🏆

Jesse Plemons also played three different characters in Kinds of Kindness and he made them all stand out. So for me it is not that surprising even if I was not a fan of the movie. I doubt he will get nominated for Oscars but I would not be surprised if he sneaks in. It really is a multi layered performance.

I totally share your excitement for The Substance and its nominations! I’d love to see it win every category it’s nominated in but realistically I REALLY hope it wins for Best Director and Best Screenplay. 💚

The interesting part about Adrien Brody's Oscar win for The Pianist was that he won no precursors. The Drama Globe went to Jack Nicholson for About Schmidt. Comedy/Musical Globe went to Richard Gere for Chicago. SAG and BAFTA went to Daniel Day-Lewis for Gangs of New York. Nicholson, Day-Lewis, and Robin Williams tied at Critics Choice.

All We Imagine as Light has like the highest Metacritic score and Rotten Tomatoes score than all of these movies. It won the second place prize, behind Anora, at Cannes earlier this year. India notoriously picks the wrong film to submit to the Oscars time after time after time again, but people thought they would finally get it right for All We Imagine As Light, but they snubbed it again. Not that the film they picked, Lost Ladies (Laapaata Ladies, in Hindi, is streaming on Netflix currently) is bad any shape or form, its just the film committee in India snubs the film that has the most buzz around it already.

I’m really rooting for Anora and Dune 2. I’m so happy Yura Borisov got nominated for supporting actor, he was the best performance behind Mikey Madison in the movie. Really good on The Substance for bringing in nominees, even tho I was more positive than negative, I have grown to like it and Demi deserves that nomination

I just yesterday watched "all we imagine as light". Its a fantastic movie. It has won many awards already including "Grand Prix" at Cannes. I wont be surprised if Payal wins in this category.

It makes me nearly cry with happiness thinking how Pamela Anderson could get that award. What a life she has lived to get to this moment. I liked Kinds of Kindess. As an anthology film it’s a bit weird but it all does tie together in its own bizarre way at the end. I gotta also defend Jesse Plemons here. He did a good job acting as 3 distinct characters in that film. He probably won’t win but I still think he did a good job.

The one annoying thing I find about awards season. Movies being nominated before they are actually released. It shouldn't matter if they get a 11 minute standing ovation at movie festivals. If it's not out to public when nominated. It shouldn't get one. Just like a new artist at Grammy award. They aren't new if they have music out 2 years prior to nomination

I agree with you it’s ridiculous, the truth is the majority of these movies are not even good and mostly nobody will watch them. I go to the movie theater every week and I keep a open mind and watch movies that I wouldn’t think are going to be good in general and I have only seen one of these movies nominated. Not only should be released in a public. There should also be a standard that the general audience has to think it’s good, it should also have to make over a certain amount of money, not that that determines if the movie is good or not, it just shows that there was interest in. I’m guessing that this is all politics what movies get nominated probably the people that vote for they didn’t even see half of these.

To be eligible for award season, movies have to debut in theatres for the public, however it can be in an extremely limited release, like a theater in LA and New York.

Limited release shouldn't matter. It should only be nominated after world wide release. In all honesty. Up to the year Birdman won. I saw all but one movie nominee for oscars. I had to wait for Birdman on Demand as it never played near me. I found that movie garbage and since then I don't trust the nomination committee's judgements.

I wanna point out 2 category frauds in the supporting category! 1st zoe in supporting I'm sorry no i don't agree with supporting if anyone was a true lead in Camila perez it was zoe saldana 2nd Ariana Grande i would say is also a co-lead

@stevewoon6157 I haven't seen any of the performances yet, so I don't. However, the Globes always have a surprise win or 2 and award voters have been known to give top prizes to people for other reasons than performance. Should it happen that way? No, but it does.
