Came to watch a bit late and I'm so glad I did. This video popped up today, first cut??? Wow. The hull looked so different by the time they were done cutting. All that time in the water certainly made a mess! Great work Andy!

Thanks for posting. We were on the island the week cutting had originally been planned to start. We were disappointed that didn't work out, this is almost as good as being there. Watching daily. From southern central PA,. Thank you!

Did they ever release the report on why it tipped?
@yasminwilson97803 жыл бұрын
It was apparently unstable and had a list when it left the port cause it was top heavy
@GrayZ_dood Жыл бұрын
From what I remember there was also some numbers put in wrong in the balancing system. At first the lean was very slight and unnoticeable but eventually it increased so much that it was impossible to recover.

Could you find out why they didn't use a diamond embedded cable for cutting, like the one used on the Kursk?
@MinorcanMullet3 жыл бұрын
I can only assume here, but the chain is probably much less expensive to use. Considering the realitivly thin hull make up of this car carrier verses the Kursk's thicker hull.keep in mind this Roll on Roll off cargo ship would not be constructed with massive bulkheads and reenforced structure of a warship or say a vessel constructed for operations in ice. Again it's only an assumption as I have direct contact with any engineers on this salvage project. Thanks for your inquiry and please keep watching! MM

I read something in the Brunswick News that indicated that the chain would hopefully push cars aside rather than slicing them in two, thereby releasing less gas and oil into the water.
@MinorcanMullet3 жыл бұрын
@@mdp4440 that’s exactly what I think will happen for the majority of the vehicles inside the hold.
@forwardplans81683 жыл бұрын
@@mdp4440 I was thinking the diamond cable might act more like a hacksaw and leave bits of steel and other fine trash floating downstream whereas the chain would result in larger pieces that would be pushed into each section, or would be easy to recover from the seafloor. But a diamond cable could be quicker, leave a neat cut maybe 6 inches wide. Overall I think this is still considered to be new technology.

it's not diamond . . . . . did you do any homework for that answer?

What is the name of the huge yellow colored floating crane being used to cut apart the ship? (I hear you saying either BB-10,000 or VV - 10,000. Is there a KZbin channel showing how this crane was built?)

What’s the plan to get all the cars out that fall in the water
@MinorcanMullet3 жыл бұрын
There is a recovery plan for the debris that makes it’s way into the water. I’m sure it involves use of cranes with grappling capabilities or scoops. The big question is how efficient is that process going to be. Make no mistake. There WILL be debris that ends up unsecured in the Sound. Already finding debris on local beaches. MM

Doesn't take much money to take better quality video . . . . . if your gonna plat the game, play to win . . . . . . mullets usually come with some shortcomings.
@MinorcanMullet3 жыл бұрын
This is certainly a hobby for me. Until someone sends me a camera that does everything but drive the boat, this is gonna be about as good as it gets. Plus keeping the boat relatively straight in a 3-4 rolling swell has it’s own challenges. Mullet prevail where others cannot. MM
