I wouldn't say they ALL do. We had a lab who'd throw up whenever my parents came to town with their little dog for Christmas. His vet recommended Pepto-Bismol to settle his stomach. All we got was a yard full of snow splattered with pink splotches...not unlike in the original Cat in the Hat book. He did improve over time, but dang those first couple of years. 😂 Then our next dog, ½ lab, half herder mix and just the right amount of goofball, carried any one of his of stufffies around almost all the time, but was terrified of any real dog who came into the house. If he was lying down, sleeping (or just watching suspiciously), and the visiting dog went over to do the dog sniff and/or, doG forbid, lie down, he'd be up and moving, he even went so far as to "hide" half in, half out of a closet. (If he couldn't see us or the other dog, we couldn't see him. 😑) Man, I miss those two boneheads. (Neither one of them ever tried to, or did, attack another dog)

Wholesome fun fact: when dogs lick another’s mouth, it’s a sign of respect or appeasement/apology depending on the situation. Here, it’s very clearly a sign of respect and endearment between the two of them. (The other example is like when two dogs are playing and one crosses a line, the other dog may correct them and the dog who crossed the line will lick the others mouth to say “hey, I was just playing, I’m sorry, are we cool?”

Oh your sweet Gamja reminds me so much of my pup from my youth. Rusty, named for her rust colored fur as she was 1/2 Golden 1/2 Irish Setter, was my pillow, my protector and my best friend. She’d sleep on my bed, I’d lay my head on her while watching tv… she was pretty much wherever I was. It was lovely to think of her as she’s been across the rainbow since 1992. Your pups are lovely!

Sounds like you hit the gold mine on childhood dogs. My son recently got a "red" golden for his little girl. They're called cinnamon...but I'm not sure if it's red-golden, cinnamon golden or what. 🤷‍♀️ (I have a vet friend who said her first was cinnamon.) I've also seen a lot of Goldens with coats that are very reddish in color. ...basically I'm confused 98% of the time. 😁😂

I love Golden Retrievers. They are so gentle and friendly. My neighbour's Golden always takes his favourite toy with him when he goes for a walk. Dogs shaking their toys is actually instinctive behavior inherited from their wild ancestors. The shaking motion would kill or disable their prey by breaking its neck or back.
