I just had a friend tell me that Bruce Lee was quoting in saying that you could be a better fighter from learning 1year of boxing compared to 1 year of Chinese Kung Fu, but I totally disagree. To me it's obvious how much more knowledgeable Kung Fu is but others doubt it. I totally agree with you Jake in that all fighting styles require forms of some sort, so I kind of understand that phrase "Be Water", formless, but I've grown to know you can't be formless and be a great fighter without a repertoire of forms first, do you agree? What do you think of Bruce's quote?
@andys638510 жыл бұрын
I agree with your friend. Boxing is effective and easy. It's straight to the point. I also wrestled in high school and college what I also learn from my experience is all about foundation , basics, and angles. That's what boxing is . That's what wrestling and tai chi is. Basics and angles.

I've been doing Taekwondo for the past year(just got blue belt!) and I've always had an interest in Chinese martial arts. Ludvig Svensson He´s probable a decent personal trainer but he´s gong fu is not what he says it is. You might want to read this: 18chambers.blogspot.fi/2013/08/fading-smoke-broken-mirrors-open-letter.html Basicly, he´s knowingly passing off fraudulent styles as authentic gong fu. That´s not very fair to his students who think they´re learning real gong fu.

Jake just forget the “Hate Jake club”. Don’t even give them satisfaction or energy of mentioning them in your videos, I’m only interested in what you have to teach us, not to listen to ignorant negativity which a lot of times comes from fear, jealousy or a basic lack of understanding. Just do what you do best and keep imparting that positive energy that we all need and thrive off of.

Anyone who says Jake's kung fu isn't real "Chinese gong fu" because he doesn't have the proper "lineage" needs to get over themselves. His wushu (properly translated as martial arts) is gongfu (properly translated as human skill, merit, or achievement) because it works, and because it helps people like you and me improve themselves and lead better lives. Isn't that what the Chinese philosophies and disciplines are all about?
@brandondorris41210 жыл бұрын
san5324 That's exactly what I said gongfu means. Maybe not in those words, but I think the concept is intact. I've never heard Jake claim to be a master of anything. If you would kindly direct me to one of his videos wherein he does, I might rethink my position. What I have heard is him claim that he needs improvement in this or that, or that he himself is still learning, or that he knows that there are people that are better than him. What I find quite funny is that there are people like you who go around the internet saying Jake is an egotistical prick, only to be demonstrating a form of narcissism yourselves. Now I don't know Jake in the real world; I've never been to one of his classes. But through his videos I can see that he does everything he can to better himself, build people up, help people improve their lives, and affect the environment in a positive way. So he's the proverbial Jack (Jake?) of all trades, master of none. Big deal. Could he still kick your ass in a fight? I'd love to find out.
@brandondorris41210 жыл бұрын
san5324 So we've gone from saying Jake doesn't teach real kung fu to saying Jake's kung fu isn't very good. And that's fine. That's a different conversation, and a much longer one at that. Hopefully for now we can agree to disagree. However, those at whom my original comment was aimed would insult and defame Jake's character based off of some quasi-religious fetish with masters and lineages. I'm sorry, but that's messed up. This is more of a side note at this point, but it seems to me that saying, "one day you will be a master too" is a far cry from proclaiming, "I am Jake Mace, he who perfects ten thousand forms." I know I'm exaggerating, but hopefully you catch my meaning. I think encouraging people to practice was his intent, not claiming authority as a kung fu Master. Maybe I'm wrong, but that was my interpretation. I wouldn't claim to be an expert in kung fu. I'm just a guy who likes martial arts and Chinese culture. But I wouldn't say that I "have no idea whatsoever." I do my research. I try to keep an honest, open, yet critical mind. Jake's style is definitely different than the kind found in old videos of Chinese grandmasters. It is modernized and geared towards practicality, rather than traditional and focused on precise movement. It is also an eclectic style, clearly borrowing from Western and Japanese fighting styles while favoring kung fu overall. I think Jake is trying to follow in the spirit of Bruce Lee, who wanted his martial art to be a kind of expression of the self, but also able to adapt to the situation and the times.

Brandon Dorris Jake Mace is all over the place with his own made up kung fu and is not applicable in no fight. McDonalds Kung Fu.
@brandondorris41210 жыл бұрын
san5324 I guess that goes back to whether a martial art needs a formal history in order to be genuine. I appreciate the traditional perspective very much, don't get me wrong; but in my opinion, even the most ancient style once started from scratch. I appreciate your dialogue, but I've spent more time in the KZbin comment section the past few days than I ever intended to, and it feels like we're back to the beginning at the moment. So for now, fare well.
@xihaobo3029 жыл бұрын
Brandon Dorris It's not Chinese Kung Fu as he claims. It's more of a hybrid of Karate/Tae Kwon Do mixed with a little bit of horrible kung fu. When he claims that he is a "Kung Fu Warrior," and that he teaches Chinese Kung Fu is what gets to me. I think he's definitely a fitness guru, but not a Chinese Kung Fu warrior for sure.

your stance is to low you wont have the mobility you need in a real fight and TKD does than kata's a tornado kick in a street fight ?? are you nuts and you only hit the guy once then you turned your back to um and the spin with the sweep you turned your back to um and you could have sweep ed the leg without the spin when you spun have the sweep he could have thrown a cross or hook to your head when you went down for the leg strike his front hand could have slapped you in the face there bro and to be at a level in you arts training were you could win a street fight using kung foo you would have to train twice as long as it would take to do the same in krav maga mma muay tai etc...
