Natalya has to be my favourite Bond girl, just because she's such a nerd, and she has this "friendship betrayed" backstory with Boris. There have been brainy scientists (Dr Goodhead, Christmas Jones) and physical fighters (Pussy Galore, Melinda Havelock) trying to appear empowered, but they all turned out flat and bland. They revolved around Bond. Natalya has her own little story, and that makes her a character.

Well, the reason why the CGI is 'dodgy', as you say, is because this was the very first Bond film to use that techonlogy in filming. When this was released in 1995, this was right on the dawn of CGI tech being used in movies (the very first was the 1986 film known as 'Flight of the Navigator').
@baddriversofmoosejaw86813 жыл бұрын
@@Kommandant4298-ui8jw Don't forget The Last Starfighter. If you remember it came out in 1984 and had nothing but CGI for the space battle scenes and spacecraft. It's dated sure but it still looks amazing for a movie that came out in 1984, the same year as The Terminator. There was also Tron. The original from 1982. Its CGI and special effects are pretty good for a movie that old. Check out the KZbin videos: The Last Starfighter Death Blossom and The Last Starfighter We Die. Also, Tron 1982 Light Cycle Race.

@@Kommandant4298-ui8jw Well primitive forms of CGI had been used in the 70s, but if you're talking about the first 3D animated digital character, then that would be in "Young Sherlock Holmes" from 1985.
@Omnipotentmonkey3 жыл бұрын
@@Kommandant4298-ui8jw you can't really say "this was the dawn" before pointing out a film that used it a full 9 years prior.... 1995 was the release of Toy Story, the first fully CG animated movie. it had developed pretty damn far at that stage. and there were films which had much better CGI across the board than Goldeneye. it's okay for this film to have a flaw that you can't explain away, it doesn't mean much in the larger scheme of things, the film is exceptional at the things it IS good at. and that's worth more than being decent at everything.

It's probably mind numbingly boring to work there most days for him. So he needs to preoccupy himself with something. Natalya's job is to ensure the smooth running of the systems. While Boris's involve dealing with the security aspects of the system, which may involve getting into cyber wars with other hackers and analyzing their attacks. Even if he's more arrogant, he's still better and more talented than her. It's not like she would be able to fill his role at Severnaya. His downfall came as a result of underestimating her.

Probably one of the best "Chekhov's Guns" in cinema history. In an earlier, comical scene, we've seen the pen grenade go off, but here it makes for some fantastic tension building based on an internal and external irony - we know what the pen is, but Boris just thinks it's a pen.
