That's a huge point that have already (not directly) been addressed throughout the show. The Council doesn't consider the Slayer as a human being, but as a tool. Buffy needs a salary in season 6 so that she can maintain her family and friends, but according to the Council, she is not supposed to have either since she is NOT a human being. They pay a watcher enough so that they can live and maintain a slayer, but not a slayer's family. Paying Buffy would contradict all their philosophy, so they don't.

@@darnellmajor8895 I’m not entirely sure if the watchers job was to “parent the slayer” quite the contrary actually. That may have been Giles and Buffy’s dynamic but that’s part of the reason she lasted so long. She had someone who cared about her on her side. However in season 3, after Buffy finishes the challenge after she turns 18, The watchers council removes Giles as her watcher bc they claimed “his relationship with her was no use to the cause” And I’m using the term “power” in a mystical sense not a theoretical one. Buffy has the slayer powers, the watchers do not. That was my point.

This is basically the relationship between the Dragonborn and the Blades in Skyrim as well. The Blades exist to serve the Dragonborn, not the order way around. She went through so many of their archaic, animalistic tests, and even allowed them to replace Giles with Wesley. The moment she “graduated” from the council showed true maturity from her at 18. Then, a couple of years later, watching her be mature enough to work side by side with them and put aside their past high school drama, just shows why Buffy will always be the best slayer.

The fact that he DOES show some emotion in his body language is a sign that Buffy deeply impressed him. I think two interpretations are possible. Either he realizes he is beaten and he has to accept her terms or the watcher's council would simply be out of the game or he was indeed the one among the watcher's council who was very aware of all the facts that Buffy voiced and he secretly tested her by waiting if she would see through this and play her card in a sensible way, like she did or if she wouldn't realize her position of power and submit to them.

I loved the speech. I especially loved it when Buffy threw that sword at the watcher who dared to interrupt her. I've long been thought since the episode 'Graduation' that why was Buffy taking orders from the watchers? She is the Slayer, the one who is putting her life on the line not them, they should be taking orders from her. Buffy rules!

I had 5 daughters of my own, and often took in other girls, friends of my daughters, who had for one reason or another ended up at our door, 9 extra girls altogether. It was tough, several had lost parents to drugs ,death, and prison. I found the lessons they learned from watching Buffy were somof the most important in their life. It empowered several to bring up grades, go to college, not to settle for anything in pants, and in one case, helped one when hit with terminal cancer to face it with dignity andpride, the first in her family to graduate high school, and college. They learned right from wrong, hold their heads high. For that I am eternally grateful. I'm a grandma now, but I still watch the repeats.!

UGH I freakin LOVE HER!!!!!! Buffy is flawed and she knows it but she also knows her worth and this right here was such a great example of that. Like someone said, in this #MeToo era where women are speaking up about abuse and mistreatment, here Buffy was almost 20 years ago knowing her worth and standing up for herself because The Watchers Council is nothing without her just like this world would be nothing without women. Any and every industry that includes women would be nothing without them in whatever role they play in it and they should be treated fairly.
@Lodatzor6 жыл бұрын
I love the irony of this scene. "I have power... they don't..." etc., as though that implies that 'they' are being petty, or fearful, or manipulative, trying to confine her from embracing that power. They covet and fear her power, right? They fear it because they can't understand it, can't control it other than through such manipulation and undermining of her belief in herself and her own ability to wield such power wisely. But they have no right to, etc., because after all, she was born with this power; it's part of who she is... Sounds... kinda like how feminists talk about men, and all the power that men have. What if... men turned around and said these exacts words and their sentiments to feminists? What if men pointed out that women (or at least the f-words) fear and covet the power of men, which of course they are born with, and seek to try and take it away. They fear men because they can't control men without such manipulation and undermining of their self-belief; instead they teach men to relinquish their power, and instead hand it over to women for safekeeping. But, they have no right to, because men were born being bigger and stronger, and more powerful... Yeah. That's right. So if Buffy can tell these guys to fuck off, so too can men tell feminists to fuck off. Thanks Whedon. :)
@Lodatzor6 жыл бұрын
Oh, and btw? Men managed to build the world quite fine by themselves before they started sharing that role with women. It's more that the world would be nothing without men. You should start respecting them.

Lets not argue. Real feminism is about men and women working together. Current gender wars are not real feminism. And this speech... doesn't have to be about ''feminism'', it's about personal empowerement. I think it is a more of a win in a fight between an individual and authority institution. You Americans twist everything around and fret over nothing. Chill
@yevgeniyaleshchenko8496 жыл бұрын
@@Lodatzor How about mutual respect? Radical feminism has nothing to do with real feminism, which is fight for equal rights. I agree women should respect men but men also should respect women and not feel threatened by them. You have a point but you also seem.... angry little boy. I understand American culture is different but where I live men and women can work together and respect each other, no gender wars here.

I always think back to how instrumental he was in defeating The Judge. Xander's acquired military knowledge from the Halloween episode was able to help Buffy get that rocket launcher to blow his blue ass to smithereens, saving countless lives. He was also the only one who was able to get Willow to stop when she went dark, and he did it without weapons or magic. His heart and friendship saved the world that day.
