Would this brush also work for Shih Tzu poodle Pomeranian mixed dog
@susansokoloski2233 Жыл бұрын
I have owned, trained, competed and breed Goldens since 1988. I am a retired LVT and one thing I would contradict here is using scissors to remove matts. So many times a year we would need to anesthetize, clip, clean and suture cats and dogs, including many Goldens, because owners used scissors to try to cut matts out. These wounds can heal easily if sutured or take forever since dogs will chew and scratch their wounds. After surgical repair and hospitalzation for at least the day, antibiotics to go home and a minimum of an E-collar, this becomes VERY expensive and quite distressful to pet and owner alike. It is extremely difficult to see where a matt ends and skin begins. Scissors is straight out BAD advice. Invest in an electric clipper and use that. Never EVER use scissors for matts!

I have a Golden Saint (imagine a bigger, beefier fully coated retriever) and those two brushes are the one's that have worked on Bernie here for years. Thx for the confirmation!

My groomer told me the furnimator damages the coat and I believe her. The slicker and undercoat comb do the trick for my Goldie.

I loved just using a comb on my golden. I always pay special attention to under the ears and in the thick area on the butt. I found it easiest to find and remove knots and matted clumps with the comb. Plus the comb really reaches all layers without damaging his fur.

How often can you use the undercoat rake ? I use the slicker brush almost daily with this heavy shed season going into fall; can I use the undercoat rake daily?
@Gamermom6283 жыл бұрын
I get the best results with an undercoat rake once a week with in between touch-ups with the slicker brush.

I happen to have two brushes that I use. One is that Furminator and a slicker brush. I recently bought a male golden retriever puppy and I use the slicker brush on him. I mostly bought the furminator for my Aussie

3:27 wow. My golden retriever is like that too. I was getting worried about her when her fur wasn't growing dense and long and I often wondered if it's her diet or something. She's 1 year 6 month 23 days.

Do you have a shampoo / conditioner recommendation ? Should they be washed as a 12 week old puppy? Thanks!
@goldenhearts88223 жыл бұрын
Hey Anth, I like Burt's Bees puppy shampoo and Wahl's puppy shampoo. You can read more about the best shampoos for goldens here: goldenhearts.co/shampoo-golden-retriever/ 12 weeks is around the time when you'd want to start giving your pup baths, but I only wash my dog if he needs it (every month or two)

I cannot disagree more about the Furminator. I have owned Goldens for several decades now. The Furminator is an absolute god send in removing shedding fur. Like any tool, you have to use it properly. I light touch with several strokes rather than aggressive brushing works best. If you brush right, your dog will feel like they are getting pet, not brushed. If you are pulling out hair at the roots, your dog will let you know. The reason your dog has short hair is down to genetics. I have had both short and long hair Goldens, all brushed with the Furminator. One of my Goldens comes running when she sees the brush. She loves and I mean LOVES to be brushed with the Furminator. In my OPINION the Furminator is the best brush out there, hands down.
